I am looking at this truck and still confused about GVWR and towing capacity. I have looked at so much my head is spinning lol. So what i would like to accomplish is getting another truck that can tow close to 10,000lbs. I am considering this one:
5TFUW5F13JX700410

Thoughts:

The 4x4's don't tow 10K with the 5.5-foot bed. Yes, for the 6.5-foot, but 8,800 for the 5.5

"The third highest rating is 9,900 pounds in the SR, SR5 and TRD Pro 4WD double cab with the 6.5-foot bed."

The VIN is for a 4x4 5.5 foot bed

It is an SR5

It's a SR5 CrewMax 5.5' Bed 5.7L V8 4WD and that's 8,800 towing capacity, not a SR5 6.5' Bed 5.7L V8 4WD with 9,900 towing capacity. If you want the other truck's towing capacity then the VIN you gave isn't it.

There it is. Curb weight 5,640 pounds. My 2016 Power Wagon is around 7,050 pounds curb. Tow capacity of both trucks is just under 10,000. That would concern me to be 1,400 pounds lighter. Tail wagging the dog towing.

Curb weight?? 🙃

How about this. Need a vehicle (prefer not a Ford) that will tow 10,000+ used for under 30k. Raleigh nc area lol

I think tongue weight vs trailer weight has more to do with tail wagging than the ratio of weights of tow vehicle and trailer. I recently read the rule of thumb but don't remember it. Isn't it 10% gross trailer weight as tongue load? Less? More? 980 on the ball seems an awful lot.

This is what makes my head spin. I wish it was more straight forward. X vehicle can tow y weight

Max towing weight is straightforward -- 9,800 for the Tundra. There are plenty of TT people here who can tell you what tongue weight or ratio is ideal.
