Lots of prep for a trip

Yep Twice in our travels I pulled into a station low on fuel and a nearby wildfire cut the powerlines. Each time the station had a generator to power the pumps, but the card machines would not work. Plus we visit local roadside farm stands and craft fairs. Cash always comes in handy there.

    Small town humor

I have seen several small towns with a "Watch for Crawling Drunks" sign in front of the only bar. We boast our town is so small we do not have a town drunk, so we take turns. We stopped at a small town in Oregon with a large turnout on the road approaching town, and a sign stating "Cell...

north from Susanville Calif to Klamath Falls Oregon

I top off my tank at the Juniper Junction station at 139/299 intersection. I do not need to normally, but if I don't I am uncomfortably low when I reach Tulelake. Tourist prices and occasionally the power is out or the credit card reader doesn't work (life in rural America!). So I always...

Lots of prep for a trip

We too leave the RV equipped and stocked. Slowly we are accumulating a full duplicate set of everything and leave it in the rig. I do not check the tire pressures the morning we leave. I do it several days before. Then if there is a problem I have time to get it fixed without disrupting our...

    Propane tank gage (in)accuracy question

We used the Mopeka sensors for a few years, and finally gave up. They disconnected from the phone and base unit if you did not use them every few days. Reconnecting is a PITA. It was not defective sensors, we replaced them twice and reloaded the app multiple times.

Who is getting richer and richer these days?

What does that have to do with anything? When I purchase from Amazon, I exchange my $50 cash for an item worth $50. My personal wealth is unchanged. The manufacturer pays a small fee to Amazon for the convenience of having the product listed there, saving me the time and effort of comparison...

    Those girls are bad

I have granddaughters that play sports. Those ladies can be every bit as competitive, or play dirty, as any boys team. My son-in-law refs high school basketball. He swears the girls play rougher than the boys. Guys do not throw elbows, body check, trash talk, or trip near as much as the gals do!

Your car is ratting you out,

Wife and I were having a disagreement while driving. Next thing I know my phone beeped with an ad for teleflorists.

Who is getting richer and richer these days?

Same here. I actually retired with an increase in income. When I ran the numbers I found my pension plus converting investments to income-producing would give me more take home pay than I was making while working. That made the decision a no-brainer. Who cares if Bezos has umpteen billion...

My Reno house being cased out?

Small town with a resident deputy. We let the resident deputy know we will be gone, and he puts us on the vacation watch list. This basically means he will do a more frequent drive-by and look at the house a bit closer when he does. It also helps our son-in-law is the County Sheriff. ;)

    Kitchen appliances

Air Fryer toaster Have to be careful with the air fryer. If you use it and the microwave at the same time, and the AC starts up, it will trip the circuit breaker. So we turn off the AC while cooking with it.

    Directions to RV park

Or not show paved roads that have been there for over 100 years, or a 4wd goat track or hiking trail as a road. I followed a google map suggested detour around a blocked highway once, and ended up in a farmer's barnyard.

Lots of prep for a trip

I hear you on the fuel prices. I am in California. I nurse and baby the rig until I cross the state line running on fumes, then fill up. Always at least a $1 cheaper once you cross the line. Same for coming back. Top off right before entering the state, fill it to the brim and any gas cans...

    California High Desert

IIRC it was two lane paved all the way. No serious grades or hairpins that I remember.
