    Oil change in new RV

They were dealer maintained vehicles, as I worked in that dealership. Generally, can't say for certain without service history, but it is done at factory interval of 5-10K miles, with factory recommended fluids. It was a Nissan dealership, so it was "Genuine Nissan Engine Oil" (ExxonMobil products.)

    Oil change in new RV

Not that there is more blowby, its because diesel fuel is dirty and sooty so the blowby contains soot which gets into the oil. The reason why they take so many quarts of oil is because of engine size, turbo charger and oil consumption. Every engine burns oil, even brand new engines, and...

    Oil change in new RV

A lot of the modern engines that I've torn apart (for reasons not pertaining to sludge) have had a lot of sludge residue, not full on sludge, but there is build up forming in the crevices. This is where the problem starts with extended intervals and that build up also gets into the tiny pin-hole...

    Oil change in new RV

I guess my (20+ years of) professional experience in the automotive repair field passed by you, the last 5 of those years spent in a dealership working on brand new modern vehicles. I've seen it first hand. You change your oil 10K or more miles, you're going to have problems later down the road...

    Oil change in new RV

You can call me crazy, you can argue it, but I stand by this... I'll tell you, don't listen to the big oil companies or the manufacturers. They are expanding the service intervals to cheat the C.A.F.E. regulations on oil and emissions. They also get more money out of you when your engine...

    Running lights fuse shorts out

I've run into similar issues on cars and trucks, most common cause was incorrect turn signal or brake light bulbs. Try removing certain bulbs and see if the fuse stops blowing. (If it stops, you need different bulbs to fix the issue) If all the bulbs are fine and correct type, then I'd start...

    Battery reviews/recommendations

The only difference between a regular flooded battery and a AGM is first, special vent valving to prevent losing internal acid/water mixture and, second, that the lead plates are lined with fiber glass mats (hence the term AGM Abosrbed Glass Mat). Thin glass fibers soak up all the water and...

Black water tank gauge inaccuracy? Cleaning tips?

Yes I have a clear piece of hose connected to a macerator pump that runs thru another black hose that's connected to the sewer (in parking for the winter). Its helpful having the clear piece for sure, I can tell if its still carrying debris out and can tell when the tank runs low so I know...

Black water tank gauge inaccuracy? Cleaning tips?

Thanks for all the advice, I'll probably just stick with what I'm doing for the most part. I may try the laundry/dish detergent tho, when I take it for a drive. Other than that, I'll just gauge by visuals.

Black water tank gauge inaccuracy? Cleaning tips?

Yes I do add some water in there with the chemical. I'll do about a gallon of fresh water with the chemical after verifying the tank is empty.

Black water tank gauge inaccuracy? Cleaning tips?

This is helpful because I also wasn't sure what kind of sensor it had in the tank, which also explains the issue here. I may try the laundry or dishwasher detergent next time. I'll empty the tank then put some of that detergent in there with some fresh water and give it a good "mixing" ;)

Black water tank gauge inaccuracy? Cleaning tips?

It's definitely do-able to just let it go haha. This is my first RV and I come from an automotive background, so flushing and cleaning tanks and stuff is something that wouldn't be too far from my mind in situations like this. Preventative maintenance is something I know the importance of, and...

    Battery reviews/recommendations

That is also true, as battery manufacturers usually make one line and just put different labels on them. True battery reliability lies in the type of battery it is, as well as maintenance. Flooded cell batteries will last a long time if maintained, but the AGM batteries are better, and starting...
