From the responses I gather the best thing to do is keep the sewer line connected to the septic and leave both black and gray tanks open.

OK, just read my post above, but instead of gluing the parts just push them on and then remove them when you remove your RV hose. Put a little vasoline on each fitting and they will come off easy. Great tip, thanks.
