Just purchased 12v LED lights for a project rv. The old 12v light has bulbs, the wiring to the old light has 13.08 vdc. I connected the new light to the same wiring but they dont come on. If i connect the new light directly to the battery then it works. What am i missing here? Any helpful advice would be greatly appreciated as it maiden voyage is next weekend, and this is one of the last things to take care of before the trip. Thank you!

As a data point a common convention in RV wiring is to use black for positive and white for negative. So if you connect a "proper" device with red and black connections, black to black and red to white will be backwards. In winnebagos the typical positive color is yellow and negative is white. So per DonTom a meter to check polarity eliminates all doubts.
