Wine at Trader Joe's (in CA) was known as "$2 Chuck" because of the $1.99/bottle cost. We noticed that, here in the MidWest, it was "$3 Chuck" i.e. $2.99/ bottle. We recently visited Trader Joe's in the MidWest and were surprised to see a $4.99/bottle cost.

Where in the Midwest?
Do you have a reference from some time ago in the same area?

When I lived in MA, it was $2.99 but when I moved to tax free (ya right) NH, it was $3.40 or so. MA doesn’t tax liquor. NH does.

Traveling across the mid west on our way to AZ, we found drastically different prices for the same bottle from state to state. Some states think liquor is evil so they tax it. Maybe there is a huge tax where you are?

Some years ago a TV show did a disguised taste test. Several bottles of wine were either (here memory fades) decanted into like bottles or different bottles so you could not tell what you were drinkin by the bottle it came out of... Who won the taste test as the best tastin wine? 2 buck Chuck of course...... Me.. (None of them taste good to me that's why I don't drink)

Note to Tom: Do not compare other grocery prices, you will be further disappointed.

Don't worry, we've been told inflation is only transitory. This implies higher prices are caused by temporary conditions and will soon return to previous norms, not that they're here to stay.

Social Security is betting on the latter as they've granted a 5.9% across the board Cost of Living Adjustment for 2022. My working sister was excited about getting a 4% raise, her highest ever, until I told her about this.

Chris normally does the grocery shopping, so I don't compare, although she occasionally mentions price increases and differences in prices between stores.

Taxes are a constant,I don't figure that in as I'm looking at the price.
Being born and raised in NYyou just bend over and keep going on.

You folks don't know what taxes are, here in Canada, most provinces have a 15% tax on all goods or services. Oh, and no Trader Joes, so a cheap bottle of wine is well over $10 plus tax.

Who was it that said income taxes are only temporary until the war ends. That was WW1.
Robert, property taxes are the domain of the municipality, so that is their only way to generate all the money they use day to day. That said, from what I have seen, property taxes are below US property taxes.

Deryl called a MA store and they are $4.99 now too. Yikes!
We brought more than a case with us for our winter adventure. Shiraz and Merlot. 1 bottle left.
