Hi folks. I'm looking to trade up from my 1992 Southwind 30 and am considering a 2005 Damon Daybreak 3272W Class A with the 8,1L Chevy Vortec V8. It's a Gasser on a Workhorse chassis with 39000kms on it. Looks good on the dealer website but as it's at a bit of a distance from where I live I thought I'd see what you folks thought before killing a day looking at something that may turn out to be a lemon somehow!

Any opinions on Damon coaches in general? Anyone own(ed) or driven this 2005 model? How about the 8.1 V8 engine? I have seen more write-ups about the Ford V10. Is the Chevy Vortec a good powerplant? I assume it's a step up from my current rig's chevy 454 but I know nothing about it in terms of power or reliability.

And FWIW, the dealer is asking $39,900 CAD certified and e-tested, taxes extra (13% HST).

Good deal or one to avoid??

If I'm not mistaken the Daybreak is the next of kin to my Intruder,, I have no major complaints,  The only real complaints were either fixed under warranty (Bad cut to windshield opening) or .. Well, Easily fixed by owner if you know about it.

That last one is with the Carrier Air-V air conditioners on my intruder, if you have 'em, I'll tell you how to fix the complaint, takes one phillips head screwdriver and 2 fingers.  Or roughly 1,000 dollars depending on if you fix it in time.

I have a 94 Damon Challenger gasser and I am happy. However when considering buying a used RV I personally feel that the floor plan, condition and price are way more important than the make and model. How well an RV has been maintained can make all the difference in the world.

There are no real lemons in the RV world, either chassis, model or manufacturer. The industry is too competitive and there are hundreds of manufacturers in the last 50 years. The real stinkers when out of business a long time ago. No one can enter the market with a dog, it would not sell.

The 8.1 is a major upgrade from your current 92 454.  Fuel injected, backed by an Allison Tranny (6sp?) makes for a fantastic MH chassis. A 2005 chassis may have some recalls on it. (Brakes, fuel rail clips, instrument cluster) Your can have a Workhorse Dealer check for completed recalls. Don't forget to check the DOT date on the tires! A 2005 with 39K probably has the original tires.

Hi John, We have a 2005 Damon Daybreak with a Carrier AC Unit.  We are looking to sell and had great interest by a couple today, but the lady was concerned the air wasn't cold enough.  It works to our satisfaction but she likes it icebox cold.  It blows out of each vent at the same speed whether it is on Low or High via the remote?  Is this the issue you are referring to?  Any ideas of how to get it "colder"?
Thanks for your thoughts.
