250 miles added on a ten-minute charge

Absolutely. Solar panel generation will go thru your smart meter first, with a ‘credit’ of 3 cents per kWh. Any electricity the dwelling uses will be charged at 15-18 cents per kWh. That EV being charged in the driveway, with of course a separate pedestal wired directly from the grid, with a dedicated meter will be charging you somewhere in the neighborhood of 180-195 cents per kWh.
For those of you that believe you are ‘putting one over’ government by tapping into your household electricity, you maybe laughing for now, but in the future you will be ‘over a barrel big time’, and you will have the feeling your getting up the backside, without any lube.

It must be exhausting going through life with that attitude.

For those of you that believe you are ‘putting one over’ government by tapping into your household electricity,
What does electric power companies have to do with government?

But yeah, I have thought about all the money the power companies lose because of home and industrial solar. They need to raise their prices if they do not want to be put out of business--or find other ways to deal with it, such as buying it back at a lower price than their selling price per KWH. Much like any other business that is out to make some profit.

About a month ago, at the main Reno VA hospital, I noticed the top of the parking lot roof was all solar panels. That is a lot of solar. They had many of their EVs charging below it from their own private (not open to public) charge stations. As more do such things, the electric power companies will be losing income. What else can they do besides find ways to prevent the loss in a time where most power companies are trying to beef up their grids?

How do such scams work?
I found my own answer to that what I recently read about a conviction.

In this case, the solar sales guy was asking for large downpayments, as most of these systems were financed. But after the big downpayment was made, that was the last they heard anything from the solar company. It was all going into one guy's own private bank account who was living like a king until arrested.

My local REMC already uses smart-m:sneaky:eters on all structures hooked to their grid. They used to employ meter-readers; the smart meters send the data back to the home office automatically.
I have a smart thermostat, the REMC grid can tell it to turn off the A/C when the grid is in danger of a brown-out.
Now I know where in North America you're located.

All electrical lines entering and exiting the homes will be mandated to be run through a "smart" meter.
No electric service in many areas where solar is the only answer. There is no grid to tie down. No meter of any type.

In fact, I know two people who have a house off grid. Paul, who I visited who lives in the forest above White Rock, NM in Jemez Springs, NM 87025.

The other is Eric, here in Reno, but just south of Pyramid Lake where there is a lot of nothing. No services of any type. Reno, NV 89510.

Each of these places are ways up an unpaved road.

And both own and charge up Telsas at their homes from their solar. I have also charged my smallest electric motorcycle at each of those homes with their solar as well when I visit them. Eric and I purchased our Teslas together on the same day in 2018.

Both have wells, no water service or anything else.

BTW, both of these guys are ham radio ops. And they both did their own solar. And both are impressive systems capable of many KWs (I cannot now remember the numbers). And each have their stack of lith batteries (not Tesla Powerwalls).

<sigh> All electrical line into and out of a home where the power is provided by a utility company will be monitored by a smart meter.

We've had smart meters for...a long time. And yes, the utility company charges you for every kWh you use. Just like gas stations make you pay for every drop of gasoline you use, and then they arbitrarily jack up the price. Nothing new at all.

I hear gas stations usually make very little profit on gasoline sales these days, hence the convenience stores.

It could even be better for them when they all have charge stations.
