I have no climate agenda but it’s kinda two different things.

Coal, oil and gas are non recyclable fuels.

Lithium is a product used to manufacture other products and completely recyclable. It’s essentially like lead.

I have zero issues with the oil and gas industry if done in a responsible way.

Coal not so much as it is a dirty outdated, expensive way of making energy.

But though yes. Be it Coal, Gold, Sliver, Lead (yes lead used in ICE vehicle batteries) or Lithim Mining is mining. Some mines are more ... dirty.. than others. .and then there is the product when it is used. Some Uses are "Dirtier" than others as well. So no LI and Coal are not the same .. Though I have not run a balance sheet.. I can only say it's unfair to say "Both need to be mined so they are equally bad"
Not sure which is worse but one of them clearly is.

Yes, EVs are FAR dirtier to build than ICE cars. It's not even debatable. Not even by me. And everybody here should know by now how rare that is for me to not be able to debate something negative about EVs (or much of anything else!).

However, one must look at the entire picture, which is explained very well in the video below:

Lithium (for batteries) isn't energy, it just stores it. And it's not the only rare/expensive component in lithium batteries or the equipment that runs on them. You're still not running freight trains, ships, aircraft and much of industry on windmills and solar panels. Remains to be seen if this deposit can be economically and enviromentally cleanly mined but at the end of the day the issue of where the power comes from still needs to be answered.

Let's say it is 100% coal to power EVs. EVs will still be cleaner than ICE for many reasons.

Such as EVs are three times more efficient than ICE. The coal is better controlled from central locations than gasoline is pumped into millions of cars.

I assumed it was a federal law, but when I checked it looks like it is mainly out here in the west, CA, OR, NV & WA and I assume several others. Here the gas pumps say right on the handle that it is illegal to top off:

I also read the fine for doing such is $136.00 in the state of Washington.

Coal can’t be burned cleanly?
How many chemical weapons did we have in this country? How were they disposed of? We burnt chemical weapons/warheads cleanly and safely but we can’t burn coal???

Some places in the US burn garbage to produce energy safely. Keeps landfills from filling and creates power. Win win, but we can’t burn coal??

I call BS. We can effectively continue to use fossil fuels effectively, efficiently, and safely for many years to come.
Alternate power sources (wind, solar, lithium, etc) all good options—especially as/if technology improves to leverage them everywhere more reliably. But don’t say that’s the best and what we all should do now or ASAP.

Use what we have in the US to be independent and possibly sell at profit vice paying for from third world counties that get it with terrible labor practices and no environmental concerns.

Yes they are.. No argument. But can you figure out what is Wrong with that statement? (He does have a flaw).








After you build one. it gets used.. Same for an ICE car.. And eventually it's disposed of (Automotive Graveyard/recycler)

Tooele army depot (south area) is 1 site where many were burned. Remote area but roads and towns nearby. Finished burning many years ago.
I think north area still partially military where they scored or still store? Conventional munitions but a lot went to community/large businesses.
I think south are was decommissioned entirely. If not I know all the chemical munitions were destroyed.
