Twice this year we've experienced very bright almost like 3' strip lights on the front of the camper that were left on all night. Looked as if they were in the shell and not an added strip. Really annoying to have a yard light aimed at your bedroom window. People must have gone into town as could never catch them to ask about turning them off, or are they on all the time?

Ugh, that drives me nuts! Same with the round "scare lights" that are sometimes on the sewer-side of campers. No clue why anyone leaves any outdoor lights on all night long. Over Labor Day weekend we had a "porch light on all night" neighbor - luckily we now have black-out shades.

Those lights are intended for hooking up when dark outside. I had a 5er with the round scare lights on both sides, I removed the bulbs to prevent them from being accidentally turned on. Dumb idea anyway.

We're talking two different lights here. 1/ It sounded like the OP was talking about "strip" lites across the front, mine are very small LED lites across the front towards the top. I can't image they would bother anyone. 2/ The round scare" lites, ( I never heard them called that) are very write and yes, for hooking up, accessing storage whatever after dark. I use mine all the time. In my mind they are NOT a dumb idea. I guess I use window shades when I go to bed...just saying. Some people like it dark, some don't.

Light discipline is certainly a learned courtesy.

I added solar IR security lights. They should only go on if someone/something trips them. If they go on at night it's for a reason, if only an animal, but IMO they are legit.

If they cause you to wake up, I apologize but, you know, if it's a burglar, then I am helping you out too - LOL...

They were built into the shell, not strung. The "strip" was the best analogy I could come up with. Yeah we're in the pitch black club.

Just different folks' preferences. Some like a lot of light on the site because of paranoia, others simply because they think it is cool to light up the site (decorative or otherwise), and some just like to be able to see more of the surroundings. They would probably be shocked if you said the lighting bothered you.

When I was doing the walk around instruction thing, I would mention these front deco lights are for when you are sitting outside and should be turned off when going in out of respect for others. I am surprised campgrounds don't add it to their 'guidelines' with check in. There is really no use for them after retiring for the night.

I've seen those lights on various 5th wheels when staying at RV parks last summer. They aren't bright enough to annoy anyone.
You sound like a neighbor who lived 2 acres away and said the light on the power pole above our horse corrals were too bright for him. Mind you this was 2 acres from his house.

But do they really do any harm?? At least mine aren't very bright.

Good to know you've had everyone elses experience. Glad you're not a neighbor of mine

I have those strips on mine. Turned them on at a campground at night one time when we went for a walk thinking they would be a good night light. More like airport landing lights! I will never use them unless I need to light up the truck bed to find something.

Yes there is; the look at my RV syndrome. I see the same thing with a Prevost MH with blue lighting under both sides, they leave those on all night too.
No need for any lighting. However, where we were in the SKP park next to the desert we had a rop light around the perimeter. Down way low and kept us from having pack rat issues. The guy next door had some spotty lighting below and they destroyed a lot of his plumbing, so it seemed to work.

Yep, I understand that situation. The referenced Prevosts were 6 blocks North of Bourbon St. in NOLA; the French Quarter RV resort. I must say, it was a home game for the Saints that weekend.
PancakeBill, do you remember the turn signal flasher trick to flash all the clearance lights on a trailer during an emergency so emergency personnel can find you when boondocking in the desert? That was long before cell phones were common.
Then the "cool campers" began doing that in CG's and RV parks for show and sidtracked the purpose.

No I don't. No way to do that without either being hooked up to tow vehicle and using its 4-way, or making something to plug your trailer cable into something to provide power and flash circuit. Wouldn't be that hard, but you would need to do it each time.

Those nose lights are annoying. No reason to have them on all night except to let people know you are showing off and inconsiderate of others.
