Advice about Dealer Add-ons with new RV?

I'm not a big fan of over-insuring.
While I do agree with that, it is just as foolish to under-insure as to over-insure. When one considers any sort of insurance you need to ask yourself "what would it mean if the worst thing the insurance would cover should happen without insurance?" The vast majority of fulltime RV folks that we have known do keep roadside service of some kind. If you are fairly young a fit, it may not be a big deal to have a tire changed with your trailer, but most of us who have motorhomes would be hard pressed to change the tire of an inside dual. The primary reason that you might want to consider it is in the event that you should need the tow vehicle towed as a good policy will tow your trailer as well. Even so, that doesn't mean that I necessarily believe you should have it, only that I believe you should consider it. We carried road service for a total of 28 years. There were many years that we never used it at all but on two or three occasions the service's phone support helped me to solve my own problem, one time we were stuck after a rain and they paid to wench us out, we had a tire changed once, had gas delivered once, and the RV was towed once. The tow bill probably would have cost as much or nearly as much as all the premiums we paid. The cause was that we were hosting at Council Grove Reservoir in Kansas when the motorhome would not start as it was time to move. The road service sent a large tow truck from Salina, a distance of 90 miles. They then towed the motorhome to the nearest qualified shop in Manhattan, KS, another 36 miles. From there the truck returned to Salina and home for a total of 198 miles and about 5 hours of the driver's time. The road service that we had simply had me sign for the service, but I asked the driver what it would have cost us and he said probably between $1600 and $1800 total. The way I see it, I slept well for all of the 28 years and probably came fairly close to having broken even. Not everyone ever has to be towed, but it sure would have put a dent in our budget if we had not had the coverage. Could we have survived without it? Absolutely but it was comforting to know that it was there.

In the process of 2024 Airstream Interstate 24GT 4WD. The info you’ve provided is very helpful and makes sense. THANK YOU!!! Just to add, the insurance policy that I will have includes roadside assistance throughout USA & Canada.
