An exciting RV Forum upgrade

We're excited to announce a substantial update of our forum platform and a brand new look.This change has been planned in the background for some time (first mentioned here), and it's finally coming to fruition, thanks to a lot of work by our server manager and tech support Mike, and to our forum Manager Janet H.

We've been using the Simple Machines Forum (SMF) software for our message boards since 2005, and it has served us well. We will soon convert the forum to use the Xenforo forum software, a technically superior platform, taking advantage of newer forum technology.

After the conversion, you'll visit the forum at https://www.rvforum.net/forums/. If you use the old address, you'll be redirected to the new site.

To help prepare you for the change, attached is a screen shot of the new login screen. However, be aware that your old user/login name will not work. Instead, you'll log in with your old Display Name or your email address. Your password will remain unchanged.

I've also  attached a screen shot of what you'll see at the top of the forum after you log in. 

To allow the conversion to happen in the background, the forum will go offline around 1am EST on Thursday, February 11, and will likely be offline until around noon on Friday, February 12. After we come back online, there will still be work to be done by forum management, staff and technical support, and adjustments/tweaks to be made. Also, one or more how-to pages will be added.

Some advantages of the new forum platform include: Larger attachments, bigger avatars, a nice mobile view, some other neat new features, and a right side column.

Hi Tom and All

I read the upgrade announcement and it sounds great.  However, what is the difference between my old login name and my Display Name? ? ?

I have only had and therefore used one name - i.e. Dreamsend.  I hope I won't need to type my email address every time I log in.

Linda, in your case, they're one and the same. Some folks chose to  use a Display Name (the one that shows in your forum messages) different from the name they log in with (an option in your current forum profile). If a Display Name was not entered, the Username shows in forum messages.

I don?t login every time. I checked the box to keep me logged in and then put the forum in my favorites. Now it?s a one click deal.

OK jokes aside I hope I can remember it...It's not on my things to remember list

You only need to remember it once. You could change it to something you can remember, but do that in the next couple of days
