Annoying trend - towing mirrors

Not sure if this is happening anywhere else but around me it seem that the "in" thing to do right now is to drive around with your pickup's towing mirrors extended at all times. It's mostly the boys in their teens or early 20's doing it...the same crowd that is installing big rig smokestacks in their truck beds and posting "diesel smoking" videos all over YouTube. Makes me laugh...not in a "that's funny" kind of way but more of a "ok, whatever" kind of way. Oh well - when I was a kid it was cherry bomb mufflers - no matter if you had an actual muscle car or not - so I guess I was guilty of following the in-crowd at one time, too!

They'll keep them extended until they wipe one out at a drive through.

Some of us still have the old school hard bracket towing mirrors....out there all the time!  :)

But no, given a choice, I can't see leaving out there longer than needed.

Yup.  And the worst offenders seem to be the Dodges with their big Bullwinkle mirrors (sorry Dodge guys).  They really look pretty ridiculous.

And yeah...Rolling Coal they call the smoking.  I could never understand it, but whatever torques their lugnuts.

Hey...I had a Cherry Bomb on my 65 Plymouth Fury III with a 318.  Sounded cool, even with 4 doors!

Yeah, I remember that.  The put down was, "I guess that if you can't afford a good engine, you can always afford a bad muffler."

Careful!  I'm a Dodge boy currently (trucks).  Had a Dodge Monacco with a 360 cid. and a Carter 4 barrel back in the day.  Dual exhaust with Cherry Bombs and hauled a**!  The fun part was that it had the most awful factory purple color on the planet!  It was a sleeper.  I had a blast with that car and wish I still I had it.  :-\

As far as driving around with the mirrors out...they are just trying to look like they are bigger than they are.  Kind of like a bully.

I guess I really am "bad" ..'
My Elandan has glass packs & the Dolphin has straight exhaust...
Neither has the stack thru the roof.....at least yet...

Guilty as charged! Week after I bought my 2005 Dodge dually the mirrors went out and they have been that way ever since. Is it cool? Eh, maybe. Am I too lazy to fold them in? I'm pretty sure that's it. That and the fact that if the mirrors fit, the hips will fit also. Rather bang a mirror than replace a fender. Always wanted a stack, but since it would turn the trailer black, that's not an option. The 20 year old in me wants to roll the coal all the time. The 49 year old in me says no, because he's the one paying for the fuel. LOL!

I think it's just personal preference.  I keep mine in, both towing and not, as the way the convex mirror is on there works for me.  My neighbor, younger yes, but more people are younger than me than not now, keeps his out.  He likes the convex mirror in that position, as he thinks he can see more that way.

In fact, I didn't even know mine swung out like that until he showed me.  They were out like that for maybe 5 minutes before I turned them back in.  With them in I can see for the widest turn, and I can see trailer height as well for tree limbs and such.
