On the tow dolly. ST205/75R14. This is the 3rd blow-out for this dolly. I know we have not logged anything close to 7,000 miles on the dolly. Always kept tires at proper psi, no dry rot/cracks. The tires are one thing, but this is the second time the blow out totally tore off the plastic fender.
Is there a preferred brand of ST tire that has reasonable longevity?
Is a ST tire that necessary? As this tow dolly has the turntable cradle, there is not much ‘side twist’ as there would be with tandem/tri axle trailers.

How fast are you driving?

Goodyears are the best imo, Carlisle is what I chose, imo 2nd best, I'm happy with them.
out of 4 brand new goodyears i had 3 where the tire tread peeled off in chunks and they provide no warranty on trailer tires. They also did a recall about a year ago on trailer tires they manufactured 20 yrs ago. I would not recommend goodyear

was it always the same side? check the alignment. If the spindle is slightly bent the tire will scuff, get hot, and fail.

While in my case, it was my Y2K Class C motorhome, I believe I have the forum's record for the most blowouts. I was having a least one blowout every trip on the rear tires. One time was two blowouts in two days. See here.

They were always on tires that looked like new and were at the proper PSI.

Since that last time, no blowouts. But I have a new rule on my Class C and that is to only buy the most expensive AT tires I can find. No blowouts since then.

I think this guy figured out my problem. Just "crappy tires". Cheaper tires blow out quite often, but especially with Class C motorhomes.

Tell us more about these tire failures you experienced? How many years ago. How old were they when they failed? Were they the USA manufactured Endurance ST? or the older, notoriously bad, China made GY Marathon tires?

It is extremely rare to read about a failure of a USA made Endurance ST tire. I do read good comments about them, but I can only think of one case where someone on a forum said they had one fail, and then the cause was unclear.

Here GY states......
This tire is eligible for our Replacement Limited Warranty, which covers most of our passenger tires with free or prorated-price tire replacement. If you experience noise, vibrations, or roughness with this tire, you may be covered.

Exclusions apply; see full warranty for details.

The GY recall was for motor vehicle tires, NOT ST trailer tires.

"The recall specifically applies to G159 tires size 275/70R22.5, commonly found on RVs, produced between 1996 and 2003"

Not exactly a current day, widespread failure of trailer tires.

Don't get me wrong, I will not run a GY passenger car or LT tire. I have had a couple of sets an a couple of more pairs, and found they didn't run smooth nor did they wear well, OK, but not as good as other tires I've had.

The tires were purchased new from a goodyear location about 3 years ago based on the time stamp of the pictures i am including. All showed problems within 2 months of purchase with less than 500 miles on them. I cant remember the exact model but definitely not endurance. I believe they are g119s but going from memory after a long day so dont hold me to that. They are not standard rv tires. Recommended tire pressure is 125lbs. The dealer sent me the dot #s of the tires which showed they were made in the toledo plant. Cant remember how old they were but when i bought them but it was less than a year based on their dot info. All of that info is questionable since i couldnt find any dot stamps on the tires and i had sevwral people help me look.

Goodyear didnt do anything to address the problem. I found that recall info researching my tire issues cause the models are so similar. I had them replaced at an independent tire dealer and made sure those had all the proper markings before i let them put them on. No issues so far with these.

Here are some pics that i sent to goodyear.

FWIW, those tire pictures show what can happen to tires when the vehicle is ran on a dyno to rate engine HP for too long.
Has the tow dolly wheel alignment been affirmed correct?

No confirmation of alignment, yet.

What kind of dolly is it? How old also?

I don't think there is any way to "align" a dolly axle if that is the problem, which I would guess came from the factory defective.

I have towed with a Master Tow Dolly for 15 of our 17 years RV'ing. The first dolly I bought was slightly used (less than a year old) and did not have brakes. I put over 40K miles on that dolly. I replaced the original junk tires at about 15K miles after they started to wear unevenly on the inside and outside edges even though air pressure was checked before each trip out. I replaced those tires with just about the cheapest ST tire available supplied and installed by a neighbor whose dad ran a collision shop and swore by, $53 for each tire complete. I ran those tires until I sold the dolly 2 years ago and they looked like new even after 25K miles on them.

I bought a new Master Tow with surge brakes before our cross-country trip in 2022. This dolly came equipped from the factory with Goodyear Endurance tires. We (DW and I) have over 20K miles on them and they still look like new.
