$175 in CA.. probably a small car.. LOL
I will probably live to see the day when that is true. However, right now the gas price is going lower in CA as it does in every election year for whatever reason. Just something I have noticed over the years. Coincidence? I have no idea.

Average price today in CA is $4.365 for 87 octane. Here in NV it is $3.639, but Reno is $4.28, almost the same as CA. But the Reno area is the most expensive place to live in all of NV.

Apparently the deep steak forgot to strong arm grocery retailers while they were at it.

Many prices are dropping just now.. For Gas we are between Thanksgiving and Christmas/new years (Should go up in about a week) For Groceries.. Some stores are being kind and dropping prices planning on making up in volume what they lose on each item.. Others are looking at the traditional Christmas/New Years feast and rubbing their greedy little paws. So you need to follow the advice in the Song.. Only for Turkey/Ham/Whatever not Girls
My Mamma Told Me... To Do the Shop Around.

The lovely think is we have the lovely thing called the Internet.
Prices at two stores near me
Blue berries: One pint. 1.99 or 3.33
Potatoes 2.49/8 pound v/s 6.99/8 pound
(Idaho Russet in both cases)

There is a 3rd store that is also highly completive. I've not listed. NOTE none of the stores I looked at are Wal*mart. Political reasons for not liking them so won't explain.

we are special here in Texas.. LOL current prices here are $2.20 regular, $2.59 Diesel.

Our son gets some mail at our address. Mostly junk mail but one came a few weeks back that looked official. I opened it and it was a letter from the California State Revenue Department indicating he owed a thousand dollars+ dollars. Didn’t say why but the California Superior Court was mentioned. I gave him the phone number on the letter. He looked the number up and found it to be a scam. Several sites said do not call the number; just dispose of the letter.

Could you tell where it was mailed from? What type of stamp did it have?

These idiots do not give up with my stolen credit card. Good! That increased the odds of them getting caught.

But if they do get caught, what happens to them?

Anyway, I just now received this via email:

Denied charge for $24.99 on 12/15 20:59 CST at GOODWILL GRANTS PASS, GRANTS PASS, OR. Denied due to Card Issuer Rejection for Credit card ending in 1283.

IOW, they went 200 miles west and tried by CC again.

There's virtually zero chance of them being apprehended. The card information was likely sold on the dark web, someone printed a card or multiple cards and off they went. They know the card will eventually be rejected, it's nothing personal. It's just the cost of doing business for the card issuer.
Card readers installed by thieves at gas pumps are a common way information is stolen.

Don's friends appear to be local so the odds are far better they can be caught. They dont need to go to any trouble tp get the info. It is all out there from all the data breaches that have occurred.

In this case, it was a new CC stolen out of a community mailbox here in Auburn. I have never used this credit card at a gas station--not ever, and I and I am sure about that. The first fraudulent charge on this card was day after my mailbox was ripped off, which was about a day before I got back to Auburn from my RV trip (bad timing!). That was a $175.00 charge that went through at a gas station around five miles from here.

In six weeks, this mailbox would normally be around full. I had one piece of junk mail in there. That was my first indication something was wrong. Also, a small Amazon package was ripped off out of there which was delivered for sure. Was ordered on my way back from the RV trip. Also, things missing such a registration card and sticker from one of my motorcycles that has a CA plate. I don't know what else was missing. But I mostly get junk mail here, with just a few exceptions.

I am not saying the info. could not also be on the dark web.

I guess all they needed was your zip code to activate the card and they had that from your mail.

I was curious why I never received my replacement credit card for the Altura Credit Union which was reported by me as stolen to the postal inspectors as well as the CU.

It was NEVER shown on Informed Delivery (ID) which I now check every day. ID used to email me, but ID stopped that for a while and now they are back to emailing. Of course, I was ripped-off during the time they stopped the emails, the way these things usually go. I didn't notice, it was during my RV trip and didn't know I could then go to a website to check ID.

The replacement CC (new account number, of course) was in my mailbox today, but NOT on ID for yesterday (today is Sunday and I didn't check my mailbox yesterday because of the rain). ID said I had two pieces of mail, but I had that plus this for a total of three.

Now the interesting part. There is a sticker on the outside of the envelope that says "Unable to Foward/For Review". The address on the envelope is a perfect match for here.

I wonder what happened.

I just now activated my new card. They ask for info on the card, my zip code, etc., which the thieves can easily get from the envelope for the CC.

But they also ask for my last four digits of my SS number. I have no idea how they came up with that. But that is the only thing they ask that wasn't in my other mail (AFAIK).

It is an automated service, no real people involved to activate.

I had a Visa at some time or another that all you had to do was make transaction to activate it. Someone having the last 4 of your SSN is pretty serious.

Yep, but I go through all my (many) CC's every week, regardless if I use them or not. I check them all every week. I pay them all off and to see if there is anything I do not recognize.

I lost count how many times I have had a CC rejected over the years for countless reasons, but not one of them have been my fault. But not always fraud. One time I had a credit card rejected because they updated their system with a new program and the new software could not handle my city name because it was too long. So it simply deleted the account while updating. That was when I lived in "South San Francisco." When a real person could enter it as "S San Fran" it solved the problem. I have many other stories like that. Bottom line is that I have found credit cards to be unreliable. I have many of them from different banks for that reason.

-Don- Auburn, CA

My bank has a feature that texts or emails me every time there is a transaction on the card. It also lets me enable and disable cards and set limits based on date or location and lets me manage travel using the cards without having to call the bank. I dont knoe if this is the real name or whether my credit union named it. It is called card safe. Great product. I have caught several fraudulent transactions by using it.
