Any RV Parks in Central New Jersey?

Hey folks,
We're planning a trip from TX to visit family in the Hopewell/Pennington/Ewing area of central NJ. Using RV Life and other planners, the closest RV parks we can find are in Jackson, more than 40 miles away. There doesn't appear to be anything is this area of eastern PA either. In the Houston area and TX in general, it seems like we have an RV park every 10 miles, haha.

We would rather not mooch-doc but 40 miles round trip from a campground isn't practical. Are we missing something? We would really appreciate any tips from seasoned travelers or folks in the area that could advise.
Thanks in advance,
Phil

PS: I thought I submitted this once but it is not showing up in the forum nor does my profile indicate I've posted, so sorry if this ends up being a dupe.
Cheers....

You might try Bull Island in Stockton, NJ.
That's the only one that seems to exist within a reasonable driving distance.
Safe travels and all the best.
Hi Pat and Barb,
Thank you! That's not a bad distance at all. I'd totally forgotten about Bulls Island. I'm not sure why it doesn't come up on RV Trip Wizard but I'll look into it.
Cheers,
Phil

I can only say that I hope it works out for you. We haven't stayed there in years..
When we did stay there we loved the location. Scenery was gorgeous and day trips into New Hope and Flemington were a real treat... :giggle:

Best of luck

Hi Pat and Barb,
I was planning to log on tonight (so here I am, ha ha) to let you know they no longer have camping on the island. It seems they it shut down after Hurricane Sandy .

So looks like I'm back to square one. As for the local scenery, you're spot on. I'm from that area and it is indeed gorgeous. The historical architecture and local geomorphology are outstanding. Unfortunately like most places, it has gotten very crowded. Still, I always enjoy my visits.

Thanks again for the suggestion and safe travels!
Cheers,
Phil

Sorry about that. Best wishes on finding something nearby. There aren't any sites south of the Delaware water gap, that I was able to identify.
Safe travels and all the best.

Harvest Hosts has a farm (dry camp, generator allowed, water available) near Titusville, NJ
Thanks Ken and Sheila. Yes, Harvest Hosts and RV Overnight appear to have some nearby options but we'll be in the area 7 days and would like to stay put. I appreciate the tip.
Cheers,
Phil

I live in Central New Jersey and can tell you it’s a campground desert. Not many options. Depending on your daily travel appetite, you might also look at Triple Brook Family Campground in Blairstown, New Jersey. Just a thought. Good luck!

And if any campground owners or potential campground owners are reading this post, build us some campgrounds in New Jersey!

Check out other resources such as RVParky, Campspot, Parkadvisor, and even Reserve America. RVLife Campground Reviews doesn't always show every campground in a certain area.

You also have to realize that maybe that area in NJ just doesn't have many campgrounds for whatever reason. Traveling around the country, I haven't always been able to find a campground near a destination, so you have to take what's best, or call an audible and combine Harvest Hosts, Walmart's, and mooch-docking.

Hi FleetwoodMatt (I love that! haha),

Thanks for the tip on Blairstown but it's 50+ miles. I think we're still left with MoochDocking or Beaver Campground in PA, which is far but just barely an acceptable daily commute.

As far as central Jersey being a campground desert, I speculate that between zoning law restrictions and the fact that real estate there is so high, it would be tough to get a reasonably priced campground established. That's just a guess.

Thanks again for your note!

Hi Adventure Traveler,

Thank you for your note. Agreed that it is an option to move Harvest Host to Harvest Host each night or two but for the purpose of this trip, it seems Mooch Docking will be our best option.

Also, yes indeed I do realize that some areas of the country are dearth of RV accommodations. The purpose of my post was to flesh out whether I was missing something during my exploration of a campground in my AOI by asking the greater RV community. They seem to have confirmed my findings.

Thanks again,
Phil

Aappreciate the sentiment but NJ property taxes, regulatory hurdles and utility rates are likely squashing any ideas of campground development. Not enough profit in it.
