Any way to fix out-of-focus pictures?

Yup. Some apps can't really focus it seamlessly so I would suggest you use Photoshop. You can try searching tutorials on youtube just for beginners.

I tried Photoshop and researched tutorials, but it didn't help. As I explained, I was able to use what I had. If that hadn't worked, I was mentally prepared to drive around folks' homes to re-take the pics.

Can't they take pictures of themselves (you specify acceptable size and background) and just e-mail them to you.

Then you can crop, as required.

'taint so. I know someone with no cell phone, and more than one with just an old flip phone. Anyway, Tom's got it taken care of.

What Larry said. Meanwhile, this is a past event. I figured out what happened to the camera to cause this issue, and how to prevent it in future.

Sometimes I will try to fix slightly blurry photos by editing them with Adobe Fireworks and doing Filter > add noise to the photo
