the Tombstone, St. David, Sierra Vista area of AZ. for semi-permanent location? Wifey has in her head, it would be a good ‘wintering over’ spot, would be placing a 36ft travel trailer. Good, bad, and ugly about the area? We have done the touristy motel thing a couple times in Tombstone, TIA.

Take a look at the SKP Saguaro Co-op park in Benson, AZ. It's a real gem. The SKP Co-op parks are owned by the members of each co-op, not Escapees Inc. so they're not affected by the recent changes in the Escapees organization. It may take a couple of years to go through the waiting list to buy into the park but they offer 6 and 12 month leases in addition to the normal daily, weekly and monthly rates. I'm not connected with the park but I've visited several times and have friends who are leaseholders there.

If you're interested, there are a couple of good videos on their Testimonial page.

It's a beautiful area.

We stayed in San Pedro RV Resort which may take permanent residents.

Loads to do all around there.

A few members live in those areas.

We had owned property in Sierra Vista for several years, 4 acers in a up and coming development. We had plans to retire and build a home there. We wound up selling without building, but only because other parts of our lives changed, not anything to do with the area.

We were drawn to Sierra Vista by the mild climate, small town feel, but still had a reasonable amount of amenities to make it comfortable. There is also Fort Huachuca there, and we also liked living in a military town. Tucson was about 90 minutes away if you needed any major shopping or medical needs. Now it has been several years since we sold the property there, but we cruised through the area a few years ago and it still looked like the town was growing and adding retail businesses. I would say that the area is worth a closer look to see if it fits your needs.

That's an area we may try to check out this winter. [Sierra Vista or Hachuca City(sp?)]
I just looked a5 th3 laptop see where the San Pedro park is, and it's in an area that where I've saved other locations to check out..thanks @Jackiemac !

Yep, great location with several things to do & see.

I was there on Dec 27, 2017 for a week, invited by Chet.

It is less than 25 miles SE to get to Tombstone from the SKP Saguaros. I went to visit Tombstone from the SKP park on my smallest and lightest electric motorcycle that I always take with me on all of my RV trips.

Another place nearby is here.

FWIW, I don't recall many, if any, Saguaros in that area, other than a few planted on the sidewalks and stuff like that. Nothing like the SW Tucson area.

I bet you knew Chet Parks! And I know his main car was a Tesla before he died late in year 2021!

When we were full time travelers spent over a week in that area, ended up moving west to Casa Grande where we found a rv park where we could buy our site. Kept that site for well over 10 years before selling and buying a home. Found Casa Grande was closer to any shopping, or when needed doctors and larger medical hospitals. Plus only 45 minutes to Phoenix, about 1 hour to Tucson. Everyone likes different thing so finding a park where you can stay for a few weeks will give you plenty of time to make a decision on if it will fit your needs.

IMHO you can't go wrong in Cochise county for the winter (It does get a bit chilly, even a little snow from time to time....but it never lasts long and mostly the days are glorious). Pick the size of community you want and go for it. Sierra Vista area for a small city, or Douglas for a "near Mexico" feel of a border city. Tombstone for that old west kitsch, but you give up the stores and conveniences of a larger town. There are lots of small communities out in the middle of no-where to get away from everything (Sunsites, Double Adobe, Sunizona, etc). Dan grew up in Benson so he is completely partial, but the SKP park and San Pedro have already been mentioned, along with Butterfield RV resort downtown and many others. And you have the advantage of I10 to easily get to Tucson (only about 30 minutes to the far East side). Benson is a good compromise (Even if Dan Fumes about all these snowbirds crowding out the locals out from January thru April).
