This is called a "falling derrick" and it's also used to raise antenna towers and other structures laying on the ground to vertical.

If you plan on using a nylon rope hooked straight to a small stump be aware that you just may have a slingshot.  Pulled out a small stump with nylon rope hooked to hitch on Chevy S-10.  It was not coming easy so I goosed it a bit and it came out on the fly - right through the back window of the S-10.

The biggest issue I had yesterday was traction.

No way my 2wd small tractor was gonna pull it so I used my 4wd Ford ranger (4wd is typically just 2 wd on most trucks in case your not aware )

I pulled out 7 small stumps in about 1.5 hours, all under 5 inches.

I had to dig around some of them a bit, some of them popped right out (the smaller ones )

Traction is my biggest obstacle still.

I would like to learn more about pulleys and gaining pulling power thru rope, block and tackle.

I would prefer not to beat the **** out of my equipment.

I'm wondering who or what people typically use these devices (hopefully they are part of an online forum ) and I can explain to them what I'm trying to do and they can tell me get this, hook it up this way and you will have enough pulling power.

Any suggestions where I might go to get this info?
