I'm getting no gas smell when i try to light the pilot ....just want to know if its easy to fix.  Also,  I dont run on batteries , I'm plugged into the park I live at.  Does that make a difference with this propane only water heater??

First guess would be to purge out your gas line by lighting you stove top.

This will confirm if your propane tanks/regulator are working.

I'm pretty sure you need 12Vdc for the water heater to work, I'm not sure if your converter supplies that correctly.  I always thought you needed a battery in order for the water heater to work, someone else will correct me if I'm wrong.

I wondered that myself...But I couldn't find anything that stated it needed 12 volts.

I do know that the replacement will likely need the 12 volts. But if the op has lights then the converter should be working....I think ;D

Manual pilot water heaters don't use 12 volts, they don't have a control board or spark igniter.  Everything is self contained in the gas valve assembly.

If you're able to light a stove burner, that confirms the propane system itself is delivering gas.  After you verify that, the most likely culprit is a spider or other insect who was attracted by the propane smell and decided to make a nest where the gas comes out for the pilot flame, blocking off the gas flow.  It doesn't take much to block the flow, the pressure is only 0.5 PSI (11 inches water column).

Atwood G6a6 water heaters that I just researched are gas and electric. G6a-8e seams to be gas only. Either way both specs state they are direct spark ignition. No piolet  light. Just like your push button BBQ except this is electronic start. I'm no expert it just what I finding on the internet. You should have a switch inside you camper to turn it on. Light will come on then go out when heater lights. It does require 12 volts to do this. Also to control temperature. Most RV's don't need a battery installed to supply 12 volts. The converter in you trailer provides the 12 volts to run the systems. Lights, control systems for Fridge, furnace etc. As stated above turn the stove on to purge the system of air. Your furnace is also direct spark. No piolet light. The only piolet light you should have in in the oven.
