Hi, it's me again, with another silly question / help request.
I'm getting ready to replace awning fabric and add a slide out awning to my, "new to me"  '06 Keystone Cougar 27 EFS 5er.

I have seen aluminum and vinyl, segmented, flexible roll up covers that keep UV, dirt and other bad stuff from ruining the fabric, when it is in the stowed position. The ones I like best, spline mount to the trailer (just like the fabric does) and then spline mount to the fabric, and cover the fabric completely, when stowed. It looks to me like an up grade of the double strength, "waster piece", that some awning fabric used to come with. (I haven't seen that since the days of canvas awnings)

I can't seem to find any of what I'm looking for, for sale. I can find lots of "rain gutter" / PVC pipe slip over covers and such, No I can't wrestle that stuff into and out of place anymore.  (yea, I know my google foo ain't what it used to be, but this should be a no brain'er) Would some of the smart kids please help me out?

Thanks, Paul

Wow, thanks for the help. That is egzackery the one I was searching for. the uni one looks to me to be prone to flapping and/or abrading the fabric.

The one I got a good look at looked to be heavy canvas, with vinyl strips bonded/glued to it with a spline groove on each long edge.

Did you purchase the alumigard?  It looks to be aluminum extrusions, interlocked, might it flap or rattle going down the road?

Thanks again for the help, I'll post what I get from my local dealer, later today

Thanks again, Paul

I've had both the Carefree Alumaguard (it's standard on the Eclipse model awning) and an A&E (now Dometic) 9000 with a similar slatted aluminum guard piece. Both worked well.

You can buy replacement fabric from several sources and they often offer the metal shields as an option with acrylic-type fabrics. Vinyl fabric seldom has that feature, but its not really needed either.  Shade-pro is one well known source and they offer it on their Acrylic fabric.

Well, my local "dealer"  was un interested, not unexpected, but did ask if I wanted to look at anything on the lot and shared the fact that they don't have a parts department anymore and also was not aware that his business was listed as a "dealer" on the carefree web site. (just about what I expected)

I tried to drill down deeper on the carefree site, I found spec's but no prices or ordering help. I was hoping for a "how to measure" tutorial. No such luck.

Monday, I will try the local RV World super store, Nokomis Florida. That ought to be a hoot, they don't have a reputation for being interested in much besides selling high dollar class A's. I bought my last trailer there, so the salesman "might" talk to me.

I surely don't understand why such a simple item is shrouded in mystery...
