Awnings in the wind . . .

It wasn't all that windy and I put my Awning out. Then one BIG wind gust, just one . . .and this happens.

Anybody around here have a ladder I can borrow? I see no other way possible.

I just made the problem a lot worse by trying to fix it, At the worse possible second, another wind gust. Not much wind here, just the wind gusts at the most unexpected times. Now the motor driven side broke apart and I am really screwed.

Looks like I will have to remove the awning, and even cut it out if I want to drive this RV again. Any suggestions?

It looks like the wires just pulled connectors apart so that would be easily repaired. Can you tell what came apart, as did something break or perhaps a bolt sheared? Is there a chance you could put it back?

If you must remove it I would try to do so in reverse of when it was put on with repair in mind. You may want to get a mobile RV tech out to help or advise. If it isn't still under warranty, insurance might help too. Unless you have to travel, I would be slow to cut anything until contacting the manufacturer and/or an RV tech.

Dang - You weren't kidding in PM.

If it is secure for the night I can bring tools and a ladder and we can try to dismount it tomorrow. We can figure out if it is repairable (by us) or needs to be stowed.

If the awning is not repairable, aside from the idea of warranty, it could be an insurance claim. I did the same thing to my awning in AZ last year. Mine bent the frame and was not salvageable. I dismounted it and the park owner was kind enough to let me leave it there for him to dispose of.

Unfortunately I was too dumb to think about insurance claim and the window passed.

You might want to make a couple of calls to the dealer and insurance to get a clearer picture. The dealer may hove some conditions as to whether we can touch it or not to have a valid claim.

Either case I will still be down tomorrow before 10 and I am happy to help in any way possible.

I think the plastic cover around the motor broke. Look closety at the middle photo above where you see the wires. The plastic looks uneven there as if it broke.

But it's dark already and I would have to be up high to see it.

For now, I will just have to hear the roller for the awning bang against the RV all night unless I can find a way to secure it.

Contact your insurance company, I've had two replaced due to a wind incidence.

May not be worth the hassle in my case. IIRC, I have a 5K$ deducible on this RV. I don't like giving them more than I need to. OTOH, I am not expecting stuff like this to happen so perhaps that was a mistake.

The good news is the front has passed us and the weather channel is predicting 7-8mph winds overnight and into tomorrow.

I'd hate for the awning roll to damage your RV sides. If you think that's a concern and have some rope you might tie it out to your bike.

If you really need to I could bring some stakes and rope tonight and we could stake it out - Let me know. I should be online for another hour or so.

I am okay for tonight. I just put my ham radio antenna case between the two on top of a small motorcycle jack. It keeps enough space between the roller and the side of the RV so it no longer bangs with the wind gusts. It's nice and quiet in here now.

Talk about flashback, we run a Entegra Vision just like yours.
We were able to save the spool and fabric, lost both arms.

After it all falls apart from a wind gust, I see this label on the roller thingy (I never noticed it before and i wonder if that is why it fell apart):



I went outside with a flashlight and took this photo of the motor end:

The left side look like it tore off. It's worth checking to see if it is repairable, but I doubt it will be reliable if it's really broken there. Should know more in the morning, with the help of Dan and his crew.

I have yet to see another Vision on the road or in any RV park I have been to. Are these rare or what?

I see yours is a 2019 Entegra Vision 29S.

Mine is a 2022 Entegra Vision 27A.

I have no idea what the differences are.

My arms are okay. But last night, I knew to put the awning in as I saw on the WX a lot of rain was coming to Tifton, GA, where I was last night. I was ready for the rain.

But when I got here, the wind wasn't that bad, until a few BIG gusts came.

If you had no arms to hold the fabric, how were you able to remove it? Here it looks like it won't be easy to remove, but to be sure, I will have to be up on the roof to take a better look.

Put though rear bedroom window and down center of floor for balance of trip, pain in *ss.

This RV has three beds, the one above the front driver and passenger seat, the sofa bed and a King bed in the rear. Yes, a small slide for the dining room which will make room for the sofa bed and increase the size of the walkway. A large slideout for the king bed in the rear. This is 29' 11". An inch under 30 feet for a place that only allows less than 30'. But my motorcycle rack adds a foot or two to that.

Without either slide being out, I can only use the front bed above the driver and passenger seat.

How does an outside kitchen work?

How did you remove the fabric from the roof? What holds it down up there? And how come you couldn't use the up-front passenger side window? That looks a lot easier, at least in this RV. The rear bedroom window is small in here and I don't think it could make it past the large bedroom door. To have access to that window, my bedroom slide must be out. It's part of the slide and has wall next to the window when the slide is in.
