Hello guys,

I purchased a set of Goodyear Endurance tires three years ago. Yesterday, I noticed a bulge on one of them. After reviewing some older photos, it appears that the bulge may have developed just a few months after installation. Upon further inspection, I found a similar bulge on another tire in the set.

Should I replace them? Could this have happened because the travel trailer has been parked most of the time?

A tire sidewall bulge, also known as a bubble, is typically caused by impact damage or a manufacturing defect that compromises the tire's internal structure. When the layers of the tire separate or are weakened, air can leak into the sidewall, creating a bulge. I would definitely replace them and take a close look at the other two.

The issue is that the tires were purchased three years ago, and I was informed that they are no longer covered under warranty. Each tire is $360 CAD here...

The Goodyear Endurance tire warranty includes a 6-year workmanship and materials warranty, with free replacement for the first year or first 2/32" of wear, whichever comes first, and then prorated coverage up to 2/32" remaining. There is also a 1-year/2/32" uniformity warranty. The warranty does not include a treadwear or road hazard warranty, according to Tire Rack.

How come 2 out of 4 tires are bad after 3 years with minimal usage? What possibly I am doing wrong?

local tire shop suggested to replace the two tires with Prometer trailer tires. What is your opinion on these?

I put a lot of faith in GY Endurance, but any product can br made with defects and tires hide manufacturing defects well.

When I bought mine, one of them had a ton of balance weights on it. They helped me load them in the truck and I had not noticed. The next day, I took that one back, and the manager personally took it back to the shop and stripped the weights from it and tried to balance it. He finally spotted a depression in the sidewall and realized it was a defect, where the belts were not wrapped evenly around the carcass. He got me another new tire the next day.

I think Kirk is correct, the bulge is an air bubble, you should, by all means, replace the defective tires.

As @Kirk has knowledgeably implied; Sidewall damage is terminal for a tire - get rid of them so it's not terminal for you, family or others on the road. And once those two are replaced keep a sharp eye on the others.

There are numerous things that can damage the sidewall of a tire. The most common is to scrape against a curb. Also, with tandem axles, very short turns will cause tires to scrub sideways since the pivot point is between the two tires. Storage conditions also can play a part, especially sitting for long periods while under inflated. Impact from road hazards or potholes are also possible. Other potential causes include manufacturing defects, excessive heat, and improper alignment, all of which can weaken the sidewall and lead to damage.

If your tires are carrying over 75 percent of their rated capacity I would replace all of them every 3 years. That is the only way I have found to avoid blowouts. Also, inflate to recommended pressure for the load. Not to max psi stated on the sidewall. I believe when they sit with weight on them for long periods (like in winter storage) that is hard on them. I put our trailer on jack stands during storage and lower the pressure to 25-30 psi. I like the Hercules H901 tires. Goodyear G614s have been problematic for a friend of mine. He had 2 blowout during 22 months of use that were loaded to about 2850 lbs.

It's not necessarily anything you are doing. It's the nature of steel belted radial tires. They are rated to carry more than they are able to over a long period of time. The steel belts work harden and start breaking the strands during use. The more the load the more they are flexed and work hardened. Nylon ply tires don't work harden like steel and will last longer under high loads but you cant hardly find them anymore. Steel belted tires give better mpg ratings.

Hitting curbs, speed bumps, potholes or weight overloading is the most common cause.

I have a set of these tires on my 5th wheel dated 1821. on a recent trip, I had one blow out and one with a cracked valve stem go flat. now as I spin one of the others, it seems to be quite a bit out of round. is an only slightly worn but 4 year old tire out of round tire safe to use?

I would not. Much easier to replace it now than by the side of the road. If it's a cheap off brand i would not think twice about replacing it. An expensive name brand such as a Gy Endurance you could dismount it and take it to your tire store for a second opinion. They can mount it on the balancer to spin it.

Get metal stems installed too.

I would definitely replace that whole set every 3 years no matter how many miles are on them or how much tread is left. Out of roundness, bulges and uneven sidewall surface is a sign the tires are coming apart. The steel wires in the belts are work hardened and starting to break.

I may have to buy 5. the only replacement I could get in Page,Az. for the blown out GY Endurance was a Mastertrack 225/75R15 E. never heard of them but the tire looks solid and I had no trouble from it on the trip home from Page to Ft. Worth.

all 4 of the GY endurance tires on my 5th wheel had sidewall bulges from day 1 like in the pic YA posted.

This might be helpful for someone. I contacted Goodyear support, and they advised me to have my tires checked at one of their local tire shops. The shop sent all the details to Goodyear, and a few days later I received a call, they agreed to cover 60% of the cost for four new tires. I hope I won't see these issues with the new tires next year lol
