Open Roads is great. Easy to work with for questions or any issues that may pop up.
You must register for an account through your checking account, and they will directly withdraw the amount owed. Open Roads will surcharge you 10% of the savings you receive. You will be issued a "credit type" card from Open Roads that is only good for use at truck stops. You can not use it at your local service station that sells diesel. You will use a PIN, which they call a "control" number, to authorize purchases. Your control number will be the last four digits of your SS#.
Open Roads has a great phone app that shows stations in their network based on your location and the discounted price. It can be shocking to pull into a TA or Love's and see a cash price for diesel on the big roadside signs at $4.29, and your app tells you you'll be paying $3.19!
Within about 24 hours OR will post to your email a statement on your most recent transaction showing the amount paid at the pump, the actual amount they charged you, any fees attached to the transaction, and the net amount paid.
Last week, I started seeing a lot of ads for TCS diesel fuel cards advertising an average savings of at least $.44 a gallon. I went to their website and tried to apply for a card because they have some national stations in their network that Open Roads doesn't. But, like all of the other truckers' fuel cards I've inquired about, they are for commercial drivers and companies only. They did send me a nice letter apologizing for that fact, though!
