What's the best diesel discount card for RV's?
Looking for your experiences, good or bad, with the various options.

We have the fuel card from open roads, have had since 2020. Very minor issues always sorted.
Works for us.

^^
X2. Works great for us and a lot easier to fill on the truck side of stations. Pilot/Flying J does not take it, but Love's and TA do.

I went to their website. Not much information to be found.

How do you use it? Do you scan the discount card AND your credit card or just the discount card?

Does it allow for complete fills ($300+) without going into the cashier?

How much does it save you per gallon (or dollar)?

Thanks!
Russ

We love the Open Roads card. You scan the card, fill up completely, get DEF if needed, and a day or two later the money comes out of your account. Basically Open Roads is giving you a short term loan for the fuel which is why they want your SSN. We have probably saved thousands of $$ over 90,000+ miles.

I just find cheapest places and use my airlines CC to get miles.
And that includes my business 30-50k miles a year.

I did see on their recent newsletter that if you don't want to give them your ssn, you can now pay by credit card.
If you've any questions, just call them.
The other big advantage is you use the truck lanes so they're is never any issue with access or canopy heights.

Doesn't look like the CC option is alive yet. And there will be a 3% charge for using the CC.
I like the idea of using a dedicated account so they don't have ACH access to ones main account.

Open Roads is great. Easy to work with for questions or any issues that may pop up.

You must register for an account through your checking account, and they will directly withdraw the amount owed. Open Roads will surcharge you 10% of the savings you receive. You will be issued a "credit type" card from Open Roads that is only good for use at truck stops. You can not use it at your local service station that sells diesel. You will use a PIN, which they call a "control" number, to authorize purchases. Your control number will be the last four digits of your SS#.

Open Roads has a great phone app that shows stations in their network based on your location and the discounted price. It can be shocking to pull into a TA or Love's and see a cash price for diesel on the big roadside signs at $4.29, and your app tells you you'll be paying $3.19!

Within about 24 hours OR will post to your email a statement on your most recent transaction showing the amount paid at the pump, the actual amount they charged you, any fees attached to the transaction, and the net amount paid.

Last week, I started seeing a lot of ads for TCS diesel fuel cards advertising an average savings of at least $.44 a gallon. I went to their website and tried to apply for a card because they have some national stations in their network that Open Roads doesn't. But, like all of the other truckers' fuel cards I've inquired about, they are for commercial drivers and companies only. They did send me a nice letter apologizing for that fact, though!

I've been using Open Roads for about 5 years and haven't had any issues, from Georgia to all over out west.
They are not available in Canada or Alaska.
Using the truck lanes are required for the discount, not the R-V lanes by the gas pumps.
Most of their discount truck stops are along Interstates and state trucking routes.
I've saved from 15 cents to 65 cents a gallon but have also stopped at other stations where the regular posted price was cheaper.
The app is great for looking ahead along your route.

You can use the Open Road card in Canada at Petro-Canada card lock stations. You don’t get a discount, but it is still worth it to fill at high speed pumps.

I have found the Mudflap app to be a huge savings and is easy to use. It gives you the same discount at truck stops that trucking fleets get. Especially with my truck and camper, I want the large open fuel islands that Semis use. The app shows you all the truck stops nationwide, or you can zoom in, or even use the map routing function to find stops on your route. Plus it shows current prices at every station. The discount is applied right at the pump. Most stations you type in a code (from the app) right into the the keypad on the pump. The app links to your checking account (no surcharge) or to a credit card (very small surcharge).

If you download the Mudflap app to either your android or Apple phone, you can use the code do1f09 to get free fuel (Disclaimer - I get the referral bonus equal to you).
