Hey all. Some will remember me. I kinda disappeared and for that I apologize but life changed a bit.

I was living in my class A for over a year as I built out my house. Got sick partially due to rough living (long story) fully recovered and house finished 3 years ago.

My kid lived in the RV for a year and then I finally sold it on. I bought a 1949 aluminum teardrop project for short trips but have yet to start on it. Right now I am RV-less. The next phase involves a 40 foot boat so no new RV plans in my future.

Anyhow... A buddy and I have reserved a Cruise America 25 foot class C for mid- August. We are attending 2 motocross races in upstate New York and Maryland near Pax River.

Between race Saturdays we'll have a week to fill. I am thinking Harper's Ferry area for a few days and Ocean City.

Looking for thoughts and recommendations for RV parks cheap or attractions or other ideas to fill the week.

We pick up in Harisburg PA, go to New Berlin NY (on track/off grid 3 days) then wind our way to pax river for next weekend and finish back in Harisburg.

BTW - I was pleasantly surprised at the rental cost of a 25 footer. Kinda puts the whole ownership thing in perspective for low travel lifestyles.

Good to hear you are doing better. There are many things in that area just depends on what you are interested in. There is always Gettysburg, Watkins Glen, have you ever been to the Corning Museum of Glass?

I second the motion to visit Watkins Glen and the Corning Museum of Glass. The WG State Park has some tight length restrictions but might fit a 25' rig. There are also private campgrounds in the area. The KOA south of the village is fantastic but pricing has gone through the roof the past 5 years or so. Closer to the New Berlin area, you can check out Cooperstown, Howe Caverns, https://howecaverns.com/, and the Northeast Classic Car Museum, Home - Northeast Classic Car Museum. If you consider staying near Cooperstown, I recommend Hartwick Highlands Campground, Home.

I did Watkins Glen year's ago but my buddy hasn't. I live museums, mostly tech, cars, trains and Military.

Did VMA on that same trip. Really great visitor center.

Thanks for the reply

If you have not traveled that part of the country in a while, just be warned traffic anywhere in that area is awful.

Last year, we traveled from Louisiana to Wilmington, Delaware. We came around the West and North side of Washington, DC, via Baltimore, MD. It was a traffic nightmare. And there is no way to enter MD without paying a toll somewhere. (except one we found.)

When we left, we wanted to go South through Delaware and Maryland where we wanted to meet a friend near Annapolis. After going through the traffic to get there, we opted to abort our return travel plans and forfeited the visit with our friends.

We turned more Northward, and traveling back roads (not interstates), worked our way over the Harpers Ferry, Virginia and drove Westward hoping to avoid all of the DC area. Nope, once we got back on the interstate system, it was bumper to bumper for about 200 miles.

I hope I never have to drive that area every again.

I'm guessing you're going to Unidilla Valley for the motocross. Depending on when you're there, Utica-Rome Speedway isn't far away, maybe a half hour. They race Friday nights, but in August, they have a midweek special on the 19th. For just beautiful camping, I'd second the Finger Lakes. Ithaca has some state campgrounds that are beautiful, as does Watkins Glen. Great hiking trails, waterfalls, even wineries.

Yeah this is our second year for this race and the following race at Budd's Creek MD.

The track seems like an interesting idea. The same day Watkins Glen has a car show and concert so we'll have to decide.

But we arrive Thursday so the Friday race might be an idea. Problem is no TOAD so we run the risk of losing our campsite if we leave.

Could you set up a tent on the site?
Welcome back
I suppose so but we are flying in so what we are bringing is likely limited. I am getting a portable grill and two lawn chairs into my luggage.

But that's a good idea. Friday night will he the busiest at the campground as well as the race is Saturday. I am not sure what it will be like getting in and out.
