We just called them speckled trout, and this link seems to agree with that, but I would probably agree with the bird dropping it theory. Have you seen any eagles or other birds of prey in the area?

The photo I took of the dead fish is not as clear as it should have been, When I compare by the photo, none of them seem to match up. But from what I remember by seeing it close up. I would say it matches the rainbow the best.
