I just got a 2001 Northland Grizzly 880 camper and I find it strange that there is only one valve to drain the both tanks? Is this unusual?

What do you mean by "one Drain"? Most RV's have one common output, typically a larger pipe, but each tank has a separate valve to feed each output to the common one.

I would not feel comfortable in the situation where the black tank could feed backwards into the other tank(s).

Not to mention you lose the ability to flush out the hose with grey water after dumping the black tank.

There is one drain pipe and one gray colored lever to open the tank. I can find no black lever. On the inside of the camper I have two gages showing the different tank levels so they are separate tanks. The owners manual is no help and it seems Northland is no longer in business.

Oops, never mind. I found it. It was accessible from above inside another door, but the previous owner covered the access hole with plywood. Problem solved.
