Hi! Looking for recommendations on the best route from the Black Hills to Grand Tetons. We are driving a Class C (32 feet) towing a Jeep. My husband is looking for the route with the least grades as possible (knowing we will have some since we are traveling to a mountainous area). Also any suggestions for routes from Yellowstone to East Glacier with the same would be greatly appreciated! We are traveling out west from Michigan this summer. Thank you!

I like running the route they suggest - down to Casper, and taking US 26 across to Moran, too. It's a fairly easy run, and the view when you top the crest East of Moran is worth every Mile you drive to get there.

Well, avoiding grades and such, I'd just run across I-90 to Livingston, MT, and then south through Yellowstone to Teton NP.
Grades on I-90 are not too bad.

Here's a handy tool for find best route, avoiding troublesome grades:
flattest route
We did that in reverse and it was a good route. We missed the falls at Great Falls unfortunately. We did an overnight there.

This is the way we go from Rapid City. 16 to I25 down to Casper to 26. Hopefully, the construction is finished on 26 by now. It was a real mess two years ago. Lots of loose gravel resulting in a few more windshield nicks.

You will encounter downgrades. Depending on the year and model cab/chassis for your Class C, many of the newer ones have excellent downhill engine braking. In tow haul they will downshift automatically if you tap the brake pedal, and on most downgrades you probably won't need the brakes at all. Learn how it works beforehand.

I suggest checking Google maps. Turn it from driving to cycling to show elevation and route preview.

We have driven from Dubois WY to Jackson and whilst there is elevation (which you can't avoid) the road is good and not too busy.
