Breakaway Cable Zip-Tied to Trailer Battery Wires

I was taking care of some frame rust when I discovered this little gem under my propane tanks. The silver cable is my breakaway brake cable zip-tied to the battery cables. If things went bad, the brake cable could tear the wires apart. If it didn't happen then, as the controller cable and pin tried to leave with the TV, the pin would get caught by the zip-tie and finish the job leaving the brakes with no power. Tjat big black thing is my propane hose, just to add to the fun. Gotta love it!

Well when the towed vehicle breaks away and the pin comes out it's the towed vehicle's battery that provides the power to the brakes not the Motorhome's

Motor home is only supplying power when it's hooked up.

But good catch cause Stuff happens and if you did not notice the wires tore up by breakaway #1.. #2 might be powerless.

The break-away cable should only be attached to the pin at the trailer end not to anything else.

In fact I kept my cable hard attached to the motor home.. At the Towed end just the pin. I had two pins (one with just a ring) so I could drive the towed.

That is to provide a visual alert when the TT breaks away. The hose will break and the sparks from the wires will ignite the gas causing a visual reminder that the TT is no longer attached. Creative engineering.
