camping world Breaux Bridge, La. Buyer & sellers BEWARE! i setup consignment of my RV for 90 days, was told to drop it off for inspection and they would consign it for 90 days, or purchase it from me for $X dollars upfront. I dropped it off on a Saturday, and inspection was for the following Monday. Tuesday I had heard nothing so i called and was told Matt Jackson the person i needed to speak to was with a customer. I called Wednesday, same story Matt was with a customer. Thursday I reached Matt who stated " Oh good thing you called, I forgot all about this, I`ll have it done today and call you back by 5 pm. Friday I still heard nothing. So this Monday no answer, then on Tuesday ( 8 days after scheduled inspection ) same thing Matt Jackson was busy with a customer. I asked for the store manager who was off. I asked for the managers name and was told they cant provide that information. Then I asked when the manager returned, silence, then was put on hold, then they said tomorrow ( Wednesday ). I contacted customer service to try and find an answer to what was going on. They stated they would call me back in 10 minutes. I received an email stating they talked to Matt Jackson who stated he emailed me a repair quote already. I emailed back advising i received no email. Then later that day Matt finally called me stating he was going to email me a repair quote, and what was my email address. I asked what repairs were needed and he said I`m not going to discuss this with you, you can look at the email. He became rude and unprofessional on the phone, and said we are not going to buy or cosign your RV, unless you pay for the repairs first. Then the next day the store manager called and said the RV needed $10,000 worth of repairs, pay the bill and they would cosign it or i had 2 days to pick it up or they would have it towed away. The RV is 2 years old, used 6 times, all was working when I brought it to them. I`m very confused as to the repairs. I can only guess this is a scam to get your RV in, hit you with a repair bill, then make more money selling it for you. I cant understand doing business this way. Not returning customer calls, fake repair bill, then threatening to have it towed away. Unbelievable. So BEWARE, again I say BEWARE!!!

I had a car dealer try to pull this scam. It's a common one. They pointed to oil on a motor mount directly under the horizontally mounted oil filter and told me the 'seal' in the motor mount was blown. Btw: I had the official shop manual and checked - no such thing.

I demanded my keys back and sold the car to the first person who looked at it.

That is too bad. I hear a lot of pretty bad things about CW. The only real experience I have with them is when they bought our TT from us and it was about as smooth an experience you could have had and they gave us a great price for the camper. I wonder if it depends on the location.

Check your local laws on how long you have to pick it up. In colorado they dont have to complete any work at all but if they notify you it is ready for pickup the law defines how many days you have before they can start chatlrging storage fees. The rv doesnt have to be ready. They only need to say it is.

Avoid camping world like the plague

It's a shame more people don't research rv dealers on forums like this.
Whilst there must be 1 or 2 people who have had good dealings with CW, they're far outweighed by all the negative experiences.
To the OP, I hope you have a successful outcome.

I`m very confused as to the repairs
Please do not be confused. Be proactive and immediately go inspect the RV with intent to remove it from Camping World. I do hope you took pictures prior to leaving the RV.

If I did I might not have gone to them and got as much for my TT. They mentioned consignment but I had no interest at all with that. I also stayed there during the inspection.

I do question why such a new camper would need so many repairs.

I suspect it is very location specific. I have had some good experience over the years, but last October, I made an appointment with a camping world in Oregon for an oil change. I waited for it, as I have no other transportation and live in it full-time. I figured they could handle changing the oil.

It was ready in about an hour-and-a-half, but the service manager and mechanic wanted to talk to me before i picked it up--very serious and in the service manager's office. Without my knowledge or permission, he had climbed up on my roof and underneath the motorhome to do a "courtesy safety check." He showed me some photos supposedly taken on my roof and told me I needed an $8,000 new roof immediately because there were some large cracks and loose materials, and it would be leaking soon, causing all sorts of damage. When did they want me to start on it?

First, the photos really did not look like my roof. Second, I like to limit how much walking around on my roof occurs, and I told him I was upset that he went up there without my permission. Third, it had only been a few months since someone else (with my permission and to work on something else) had told me my roof was fine and then touched up a couple of small cracks with sealant.

It has been 8 months, and I have had no leakage, and I will never go back to that CW.

Way back when my rig was about two years old with 30,000 miles on it, a dealer did an estimate on what was needed to be done. (I had bought it new.) Total = $9,000. This included 6 new tires (they would drive it to the tire dealer and have new tires on it then charge me not only for the tires, but also a fee of 30% of the tire cost for driving it two blocks), flushing radiator and transmission, new brakes all around, and a bunch of other things i can't remember. Funniest part was when they said I needed new windshield wipers when my son had put new ones on the day before! Won't go back to that place again, also!!!!

FOLLOWUP: camping world corporate called stating my social media was endangering the store manager. I asked how when there name was never mentioned. She stated to take down my posts or come get my RV. I had a previous agreement to go in Monday. I advised I couldnt and why was she threatening me to take down social posts or get RV today? She said i`m not threatening you. HA.,.

I would take the post down and strong arm them with the fact that you complied, get your rv back, and then post whatever you want. They are highly motivated to hide negative reviews.

The only tim i talked to cw about consignment it wasnt consignment. Even though they called it consignment it was identical to buying my rv at a ridiculously low price.

I would push my rv to any repair shop before letting CW touch my rv. They are the worst rvstealership! Am lucky to have a great rv repair shop not far from me. Get you rv back asap and never go back.

A friend used to run the Bureau of Automotive Repair for the state of California. These are the folks who, in the 80's, caught Sears Roebuck with their pants down. They put 113 'fixed' cars into 112 Sears locations, and it cost Sears huge $$$ in addition to them almost losing their license to do business in the state. Among numerous scams, you'd be sold a Die Hard battery (remember them?), irrespective what was wrong with your car.

Some years later I happened to mention a situation where Chris took her Honda into a dealership for service and they tried to sell her repairs that weren't needed - until I got on the phone. The B.A.R. planned to put a car into the dealership.

Sorry for the stories, but I wondered if your state has such an oversight department that you can talk to.

I have spent several months in Louisiana now, over the last year and a half. I'm located near St. Francisville, and have kept my eye on that Camping World, as we have a Camping World card (membership). But the distance is just a little too far, and found alternatives to all my needs, so have never been there (yet).

Even though we have a Camping World membership, we visit Camping World, maybe, once a year to stock up on "gadgets" (purchased in store), get the 10% discount and that's about it.

We do occasionally stop at Camping World franchised campgrounds when a KOA is not convenient. We also get the 10% discount for camping fees.

However, in all our years, we have NEVER used Camping World for any RV service, or purchased or sold an RV through them ... NEVER.

As long as I can remember, Camping World has always had a bad reputation for screwing over new sales, trade-in, and RV repairs. Occasionally, someone will make a post how great their experience was, but those are far and few in-between.

For the OP .... I STRONGLY advise you to get your camper back and tell them to go take a flying leap! Whatever it takes, get it back and use an alternative approach to sell your RV.

I appreciate your post here. We are leaving Louisiana (tomorrow - Saturday), but will be back in October for another 4 months over the winter. I'll definitely write this Camping World off my bucket list!

Sounds like your RV stayed at that dealership about a week longer than mine would have. I don't put up with that phone tag crap.
