It looks like the CA ICE ban will be gone before it starts.

My opinion it is not necessary here in CA. In a few years, IMO, EVs will be cheaper than ICE cars if that is not already true. EV sales in CA will be on the increase IMO, and the problem is likely to take care of itself without much outside help.

We are close to 40% EVs already here. 37% to be exact. In a few years, I expect it to be more than 50% EVs here and that number will continue to grow.

"As of February 2025, the percentage of electric vehicles (EVs) in California is approximately 37% of U.S. registered light-duty EVs2. Additionally, California has seen a significant increase in EV sales,"

That's a skewed statistic because they're using "U.S. registered" number and not CA registered. DOE cites 1.25M registered EV's in CA with a total number of registered cars of 13.2M. So that's more like 10%. Way more than most states in terms of quantity, next nearest states are 200K. I would believe in some population centers the percentage of EV's could be notably higher though.

There are several arguments for/against EV's but as noted in this thread costs are coming down
As noted in other threads re-charge times are as well (Though there may be problems with that)

Back in the days of Thomas Edison (Who by the way drove an EV and invented a battery to power it, The Edison Cell) It was looking like EV's were going to win the day. but there were many issues that could not easily be overcome.. For example the Edison cell which was the best EV battery of the day is "Leaky" electrically (looses charge when sitting still) I've used them for other things.

Today we have better batteries.. And a few other improvements. Including more and better charge stations.

Don, you need to brush up on your math skills. 37% of the total U.S. is not the same as “nearly 40%” of CA vehicles.
I was just checking to see if everybody is awake here.;)

But it's not my math, it's my poor reading skills, especially when I am in a hurry as I was then.

While the number of EVs could be close to that high "around here", the web says there are 30 million cars in CA and around one million are EVs. So that is somewhere around one in 30, or around 3% EVs in this state.

Anything that “could” be, “could not” be.

Yep, it greatly varies by location here in CA. The most Teslas I have ever seen was when I was in Silicon Vally several years ago. It was the most common car by far. Not sure about the other EV makes, as I do not recognize most other EVs.

Less EVs farther away from the populated areas, even here in CA.

What is the problem that will more than likely take care of itself?
Needing our government to stop us all from killing ourselves from the pollution of ICE vehicles by preventing the sale of new ICE vehicles in some states, such as here in CA, in a few years.

IMO, as EVs start to get cheaper than most ICE vehicles, many more people will start losing their EV-phobia.

You can ride a motorcycle between cars at 70 mph in CA, but cars with internal combustion engines are bad for your health.

We have plenty of fresh air where I live so not sure what you are talking about. Do you think tobacco products should be banned as well?

The difference is the 70 MPH lane splitting is most likely only going to the rider.

But the ICE car pollution is slowly killing all of us.

Already is, in most places where the smoke can affect others.

It's been a very long time since I have seen anybody smoke inside a public place, such as airplane, restaurant, hospital, indoor shopping mall, indoor workplace, etc.

And I am old enough to remember all of that.

But I can still be stuck in traffic in Reno on my electric motorcycle behind your polluting tailpipe--and cannot legally lane split to get away from it, as I may here in CA.

That is only due to the insane gasoline prices on the west coast, I just checked gas buddy, gas here in western Louisiana is running around $2.55 per gallon, in Los Angeles, California it is running about $3.98 (which is cheaper than I thought it would be, but still more than 1.5 times what it is here.

LA is cheaper than here in Auburn, CA.

Being stuck with PG&E for electricity here is not much better than the gasoline prices.

Everything out here costs more, but wages are normally higher as well.

IOW, for those who live in states far away from here, CA is a nice place to live, but I probably wouldn't want to visit.

The nice thing about living in northern CA as an RVer, is everyplace else is a lot cheaper! Even southern CA.

That what’s so attractive about living in Death Valley, everywhere else is not Death Valley.

So it’s illegal in CA. to drive a motorcycle between lanes at 70 mph?
Yep. It is always illegal to drive in an unsafe manner. Even in CA. Covered under CA's "Basic Speed Law", which states "you may never drive faster than safe".

Cars often get busted for speeding at half the speed limit on Skyline Blvd in Pacifica, which is just south of San Francisco. And rightfully so. No way can they see well in on the extra foggy days. I was glad to see it enforced. Extremely dangerous to go faster than around 20 MPH on some days.

I doubt if many cops would consider 70 mph safe while lane splitting, at least at most places. Besides, 65 MPH is a more common freeway speed limit out here.

Ever been there? I have, many times. It's usually nice in the middle of winter, at least when not windy, probably much like where you are located in Texas.
