CA Ice Vehicle ban going away?

LA is cheaper than here in Auburn, CA.

Being stuck with PG&E for electricity here is not much better than the gasoline prices.

Everything out here costs more, but wages are normally higher as well.

IOW, for those who live in states far away from here, CA is a nice place to live, but I probably wouldn't want to visit.

The nice thing about living in northern CA as an RVer, is everyplace else is a lot cheaper! Even southern CA.

True, but for those living off investment income, retirement, etc the money does go a lot further in places like where I live.

The best way is to retire from a higher paying CA career and then live anyplace you want and no need to be concerned about the money running out.

Is usually best to leave CA when one retires. But many say when you once do, you will most likely never be able to afford to move back. And surprisingly, many people do want to come back after leaving CA, and many cannot then afford to.

No matter how ridiculous the house prices are in many places in CA, they just keep on going up and up nonstop, usually a lot higher than the inflation rate.

CA is the most populated state for several good reasons. Even with all the BS and ridiculous prices.

I never left CA, not fully. I owned a house in CA continuously since not long after I got out of the army in 1971.

The house everybody said I paid too much for, which was $34,500.00 back then. That is the little 810 SF house here.

Yeah, the couple that is living next door to us is a good example, they were living in California, but lost their house to a wildfire 3-4 years ago during one of the bad wildfire years out there, so they moved back here (her home town). The house they are living in is a rental, in theory they are building their own place on the other side of town, but they have been here since before we bought this house over 3 years ago now, so who knows.

Kinda' what I did. Started out in the defense industry in SoCal and then a while after graduating went where the money was -> Silicon Valley, Palo Alto to be exact. Came To Texas for another bump and made out quite well. Then cashed and decided to go to Culinary School. Now comfortably retired and thinking about buying another RV and making a move to the South. Solidly UMC, not rich, not poor, but happy where I am.
Everybody has to find their own way in life.

I see little point in being filthy rich. Too much money just makes life more complicated with more hassles, IMO.

For an example. If I were filthy rich, perhaps I would own 11 motorcycle shops instead of 11 motorcycles. Is that somehow an advantage to me, or just more trouble?

I too am happy right where I am, with just a little more money than I will probably ever need, but far from being rich.

Elon can keep his hassles. I don't want them.

But if I did have billions, I would probably do my best to forget I had it. I would probably just leave it in the bank until I drop dead. I would see no reason to invest in anything.

The difference is the 70 MPH lane splitting is most likely only going to the rider.

But the ICE car pollution is slowly killing all of us.
It is not like we will live forever anyways. So it is just the ICE cars that cause pollution that is slowly killing us. Not the rich folks flying in their private jets just to get a slice of cake someplace, or ships, or trains or factories, and on and on and on.

It all adds up.

But most of us are a few feet away from exhaust pipes every day we drive on a freeway. I doubt a private jet flying at ~45,000 feet above me is the same to my lungs.

True, but I would mind giving it a try.
I assume you mean "would not".

But I do not even want to try it. I will not buy a one buck CA lottery ticket and that has made a lot of people instant multimillionaires. And at least one instant billionaire.

OTOH, I wouldn't cry about having millions. or not having.

And having a few billion bucks is a lot better than being poor, as Gary pointed out. At least usually. Some people get murdered when they are known to have a ton of money, as happened to Mr. Coors in Colorado. Has happened to several others as well.

If I won a bazillion dollars... I could easily live on $1m a year. Then would divvy some up to friends and family, a few charitable organizations and hospitals, maybe me and my wife's alma mater, philanthropy & what not, and do some traveling. The rest I would spend on hookers and blow.

Yep, I recall a guy in Canada a few years ago, who came into many millions of dollars very unexpectedly. I don't now remember the entire story, such as how he got the money. But he decided to keep 200K$ for himself and donated all the rest (many millions) to various things.

MacKenzie Scott has donated approx 14 billion to various causes. Of course she's a 4% stakeholder in Amazon. Bill and Melinda Gates have donated a good sum as has Warren Buffet.

Already is, in most places where the smoke can affect others.

It's been a very long time since I have seen anybody smoke inside a public place, such as airplane, restaurant, hospital, indoor shopping mall, indoor workplace, etc.

And I am old enough to remember all of that.

But I can still be stuck in traffic in Reno on my electric motorcycle behind your polluting tailpipe--and cannot legally lane split to get away from it, as I may here in CA.

-Don- Auburn, CA
I can stand directly behind my vehicle without a problem. Apparently it only pollutes people driving electric motorcycles.

Virtually every article I've read, especially several in the Wall Street Journal, EV sales nationwide are tanking. Several Mfgs. such as VW, have stopped looking to add EV vehicles to their lineup. Volvo made a statement several years back that before 2030, all of their vehicles would be EVs, and now has pulled back from that statement. Ford is close to bankruptcy from EV production. Finally, since most of the EV batteries come from China, how will the tariff war affect new EV prices?

I'm pretty sure Ford isn't teetering on bankruptcy, you may want to try switching channels. Otherwise, the price of anything being imported will reflect any additional costs.

Do you have a link?

What I find for the USA is stuff such as:

"Nearly 300,000 new electric vehicles (EVs) were sold in the first quarter of 2025 in the U.S., according to the latest report from Kelley Blue Book, an increase of 11.4% year over year. Despite many obstacles — and what you may read elsewhere — electric-vehicle sales continue to grow at a healthy pace in the U.S. market. Roughly 7.5% of total new-vehicle sales in the first quarter were electric vehicles, an increase from 7% a year earlier."

For Ford:

"Ford EV sales increased 12 percent to 22,550 units during Q1 2025, driven by the Mustang Mach-E and F-150 Lightning, and assisted by E-Transit."

For VW:

VW increases EV sales by 59 per cent
The Volkswagen Group increased its global BEV deliveries by 59 per cent to 216,800 vehicles in the first quarter compared to the same period last year. Things went very well in Europe and the US, but not in China.

What made me decide to check is I am seeing many more new EVs this year than I have ever seen.
Here in NV as well as in CA.

But as we can expect, Tesla sales are down.
