Everyone OK? Quite the blaze goin on. Our air qual in Eastern AZ is down, but not sure if it is the CA smoke or not.

The LA fire smoke is going out over the ocean as the flames are fueled by Santa Ana winds blowing offshore from a high over Nevada. I wasn't directly involved in any of the fires but I drove through the winds feeding them in the upper desert yesterday. Highway 58 between Barstow and Mojave had some of the strongest crosswinds I've ever experienced. Fortunately I was in my car and not my RV. Even the trucks slowed down to 30 MPH in what looked like thick fog but was actually blowing dust. I just dropped in among them and made it through OK.

We are in our rv just east of phoenix neanFountain Hills. Air quality has been bad here for over a week. Not sure it is related to the LA fires. Went through some fires in Paycon AZ on the way here.
What town are u near in AZ?

Did you mean Payson, AZ? I like that little town. I stayed for a month there a few years ago at the Oxbow RV Park.

And the Ayothaya Thai Cafe is extremely good. Especially for being away from large cites.

I hate to think that area burnt down.

Did u like the oxbow? We are looking for another place next year at a lower elevation (I.e. warmer in Jan and Feb). Payson would be too cold during those months but I’ve heard really good things about it.

The Mogollon Rim is awesome in September.

Those fires are just awful. I hope the winds die down soon to give the firefighters a chance to start containment. Last I saw there was 0 chance until that happens.

I like Oxbow a lot, but the RV sites are unpaved. They have propane there at the RV park, which can be handy when cold. I enjoyed the hiking in the hills right next to my RV. Lots of javelinas in that area, so watch your doggies (if you have any) there if are off leash in the hills. I was there in November. Weather in Payson is much like Reno--can be almost anything at any time. Elevation there is the same as my Reno house 5K'.

The large Chinese restaurant just south of there was lousy, IMO, and takes forever. But the casino has great American food and the Thai restaurant on the south side of town is outstanding.

Oxbow / Payson is on my list of places to see again, someday.

This is floating around out there again. Apparently this is the last year of California fires.
That could have a big negative effect on the wildlife that requires dry summers-could be worse than the fires. Mother Nature knows how to deal with this stuff a lot better than man.

Unfortunately, I think that's what's happening as we speak. Hopefully my fellow native Californians will take to heart what Mother Nature is trying to say.

It's unfortunate how things have turned out. However, it's important to remember that people voted for this situation. They often had the opportunity to change their votes by electing someone else who might have acted in the best interest of their constituents rather than for personal gain and fame. Take North Carolina, for example; many people are now without homes, and the Amish offered to help by building tiny homes as winter approached, but they were stopped from continuing their work.

Your one vote is incredibly powerful, and that fundamental freedom is at risk of being removed. If you think things are bad now, wait. I'm 76 years old, and I hope I won't be around to see voting rights taken away, but it’s coming for the next generation. If people don’t wake up and educate themselves about those they elect and remove from office, the consequences could be severe.
Tell me California was not told this could happen. Tell me firemen were NOT let go because of a shot in the arm. My father told me, Son, you must wear a seat built to keep you safe. You VOTE, folks. Is your Seat belt? Use it wisely.

Mother Nature is getting help from Father Industrialization. Help is on the way though, at last years climate summit and after minutes of intense debate, the planets major industrial polluters agreed not to do twice as much as they've never done before.

"Recently, unsubstantiated accounts of local and state authorities removing Hurricane Helene victims from “tiny homes” constructed by the Amish and other temporary structures have circulated on social media. OSFM has investigated these rumors – including by contacting the local inspections departments alleged to have forcibly vacated North Carolinians from these structures – and determined that they are entirely without merit."

I'm sorry, but that is not what I said. "NC stopped the building"
