California gas prices

I hear the sky will fall one day, be scared!
Off Topic. Actually the sky DOES fall, well not the sky but material from the asteroid belt does. There was a Russian fall that broke windows and injured a number of people from the shock wave.

I keep a catcher's mitt handy for just such an event.

Not a bad thing for the most populated state. It will surely save a few lives.

"IS IT TRUE THAT MORE PEOPLE DIE OF VEHICLE EMISSIONS THAN CAR CRASHES?"

The life saved could be yours. Or a loved one.

Good Grief Don, you have your own entire EV section, don't drag your EV antics into general discussions.

Record Average? What does that mean?

"Mendocino, California, has taken the cake for having the most expensive gas in the United States, coming in at a whopping $9.60 per gallon."

See here.

That same article says that Georgia was the cheapest at $4.407, but that's absurd too. I filled up in Brunswick, GA just off I95 on Monday of that same week and paid $2.97 for regular unleaded. Never saw any pump price even close to $4 driving from Savannah (SC border) to the Florida border. Ditto driving the length of Florida, and FL is not known for inexpensive gas or diesel.

Blame AAA for that, as it says:

"Georgia is currently the state with the cheapest price for gas, with a gallon of regular gasoline costing $4.407 as of Thursday afternoon, per AAA."

In 1960, the average price of a gallon of gasoline in the United States was $0.31 and the minimum wage was $1 per hour. The current national average gasoline price is $2.769 and the minimum wage is $7.25.

The current California minimum wage is $16.50 per hour and gasoline average price is $4.592

Yep. I can still remember my parents making a big deal out of the very first time for it to take $3.00 to fill the large gas tank in our large car.

BTW, I wonder what happened to all the "gas price wars" we used to often have.

The gasoline price has been an issue my entire life. Same with groceries. It mostly just shows us how fast our money is decreasing in value because of inflation.

So it took three hours of minimum wage to fill the tank. It probably takes four house wage today, depending on tank size.

In 1960, the average miles per gallon (mpg) for passenger cars was around 14.3 mpg. This figure is specifically for passenger cars, as opposed to the average for all vehicles, which was 12.4 mpg, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA). The average MPG (miles per gallon) of a car in 2025 varies widely depending on the type of vehicle and its fuel source. Generally, anything above 33 combined MPG is considered good for gasoline-powered vehicles. However, hybrid and plug-in hybrid models can achieve much higher fuel economy, with some models reaching over 60 MPG. The point being that the cost of fuel per mile driven today is much less than it was in 1960, even ignoring inflation.

It sure would be nice if we could only have the incomes of today with the prices of 1960!
