Campground near Mt Mitchell State Park, NC

Hi all,
  I'm planning a trip to NC next week and want to hike Mt Mitchell while I'm there. Any advice for campgrounds near the Mt Mitchell State Park that are open this time of year and can accommodate a 37' 5ver?  Thanks!

Not familiar with rv camping on that side of Ashville and rvparkreviews.com doesn't indicate much with your size of 5ver.  All state and national parks will be winterized so only dry camping on first come first serve basis.  On other side of town near Brevard, you could stay at Davidson River Campground; although mostly winterized, a few loops have heated restrooms and showers plus several electrical hookup pads on a first come, first serve basis.  I stayed there in early Nov and they had already turned off water to dump station.  Access and pads are excellent at Davidson River and shouldn't take too long to get over to Mt. Mitchell for the day.  Good hiking in Pisgah National Forest too.

We stayed at Mountain Stream RV Park,6954 Buck Creek Road, Marion, NC, (828) 724-9013  ()‎ Nice park, friendly staff, well maintained. It is up in the hills on highway 80 from Marion NC.
Scary getting there since about 8 miles from the park you see a sign that says trucks and large vehicles not recommended past this point. Big diesel pusher pulling trailer with bikes blew past us as we crawled cautiously around the curves.nice mountain stream runs around and through the camp.
Our stay was during the late spring. You might wish to call and discuss wintering conditions and availability.

Many, if not most, of the campgrounds in that area are closed this time of year. You will probably be restricted to choosing any that are open.
