Hi All,

I have been doing some research regarding campgrounds in Waterton Nat'l Park in Canada just north of Glacier in MOntana.  Has anyone stayed at the Waterton Township Campground?

We also plan to head to Baniff and Lake Louise, any suggestions for that area.

Marsha:

Can't help with Waterton but Banff and Lake Louise are in the Banff NP and all campgrounds are owned by the Park. Tunnel Mountain has full hookups at Banff and is near town but they like to assign your site at the gate. You might take the car for a trip around the cg to find ones you like.

At Lake Louise the sites are very nice (30 aamp elec only) but request be be down along the river; there are beautiful trails in that part of the cg.

Tunnel Mountain is a great park and there are some sites with electric only that have a great view of the south to southeastern sky for your Datastorm.  Lake Louise has several sites in their provincial park that you can get online but you will have to ask Ned for the site # we had and also the site #'s at Banff.  Jasper was a different story unless you can find a site that isn't occupied.  Hopefully you have Canada's park pass that is $100+ but worth it since you have to show the pass for their campgrounds.  That area is very, very beautiful.

http://www.satellitefriendly.com/ is a good web site to look for satellite friendly campgrounds and site numbers.  I always post our location information to the database.

Jeff, Lorna and Ned,

Thanks Jeff for the info on Baniff and Lake Louise

Ned, I'll check that site out.  Looks like it could be a wealth of information

Lorna,  I still haven't found information and how to go about getting the Park Pass.  Can you help out?  I've been on the Canadian Provincial Park site which is awkward and doesn't have a lot of info.  We are now in Sault Ste Marie, Canada and were wanting to stay at a couple of provincial parks heading to Thunder Bay.

Thanks again, everyone.

PS.  I hate to admit this here; but Tim and I were disappointed in Niagara FAlls.  TONS of people.  It was beautiful, but I was a bit disappointed.

Lorna,

Dud! {slapping my forehead}  The Parks pass is a National Parks pass not a campground pass.  For some stupid reason, I had in my pea brain that it was for campgrounds.  I'll check into it and I have found the website.

Thanks!

Haven't stayed there but drove thru and checked it out. Looked like a nice CG but it was full when we were there.

I don't think that you have to buy it online because I believe they are available when you go into a Canadian National Park.  When we entered Kootnay NP we got it at the gate.  Be sure to tell them that you are a senior because we didn't and paid the full price.

We stayed on the EAST side of Glacier Nat'l. Park at Johnson's CG, I think it was called.  Up a steep hill and doable, but can get a bit windy sometimes. Good Sam discount.  We stayed a week and took in the park from that side.  We went up to Waterton and went to one of the most fabulous carriage museums we've ever seen.  Spent several hours there and enjoyed it all.  They even give carriage rides in some of the ancient ones.  Talked to a young fellow working his way through college there, taking care of the horses.  He was from Montreal??? I think.  A big city anyway.  He told us, if that job hadn't opened up for him, he wouldn't have been able to go to school.  He absolutely loved what he was doing, even shoveling out the stalls.  He was out of his element, but having a great time being there.

There were several other things we did there, as there's lots of side roads, still in the park, but out of the main stream.  Very beautiful rides.  We then moved over to the WEST side of Glacier and stayed at Northwest CG, or something like that and stayed a week there.  It had a nice little animal museum next door, all stuffed, but the animals are found in the Glacier area.  We didn't like the west side nearly as much as too much commercialism.  Helicopter rides, baloon rides, ads blurbing out every where you went and much more traffic.  We aren't into that kind of stuff.  There are lots of interesting things to do there though.  The RV office gave us most of our hints of entertainment there.          Daisy

We stayed there a few years ago.  The main things I remember are the deer that roamed the campground and the location, which was within walking distance of everything.

We enjoyed the tour boat that goes to the other end of the lake.

Jeannine and Daisy,

Thanks so much for the information.

Jeannine, I'll check into the tour boat.

Daisy,  thanks for the info.  We are also not much on big groups of people or tourist spots.  Guess that is because we are from So. Calif and we usually have tons of tourist at Sea World and Disneyland.  We prefer the remote areas.  Infact today we are in Thunder Bay Ontario and took a drive along a highway that had no cities whatsoever.  WE found a dirt road and pulled off and had a picnic.  Then we walked about 3 miles for a nice hike and enjoyed every minute of it.  We realized we were probably 20/30 miles from any people.

Thanks again to you both.
