Yep, those little packs of cigarettes were an investment in the future for Big Tobacco.

Oh it's better than than that (Or worse) I think it was Reynolds (The company that had the director say "That'll get 'em hooked" and the director who stored meeting minutes at his mistresses house.. BIG mistake) In a cooperative deal with the Government they found a way to seriously increase the nicotine content of the weed.. The Sales speech was "You won't need to ship as many" and thus you will save money.
What really happened? Increase in the addictiveness = more sales of course and more profit and more death.
Normally I'm not all that bothered by a smoker near... But those high-potency weeds choke me up even if you go outside, smoke, then come back in just what clings to your uniform (clothing) is enough to give me trouble breathing.

Us Air Force pukes had it rough on long missions. Frozen dinners warmed in ovens onboard the BUFF and EC-135.

I remember when I was deploying overseas, at the air base we were to fly from, the Air Force dudes were laying back on the pile of duffel bags shirts unbuttoned and pants unbloused not worrying about it. I thought, “boy did I screw up”.

I didn't serve, no wars when I passed through, but I always knew I would volunteer air force above any other service.

By the time I was ready the "all volunteer" peacetime army didn't have much of a rep. I went to tech college instead.

Dad was in the 5th in New Guinea etc. in WWII.

Second choice would have been naval aviation.

Bless all y'all who pounded around in the jungles and sandboxes.

How many remember a P38? Now don’t cheat and Google it
I've had one hanging on my keyring for going on 25 years now. I took it from a dude I arrested in Oroville, CA in the late 80's. I would have put it with the rest of his personal belongings that would be returned to him upon his release, but he tried to cut me with it so I confiscated it. I did the same thing with an Old Timer pocket knife I took from a guy about the same time period.

When they got to jail they both asked the same thing, "Am I going to get that back?"

I explained to them that they had two choices. #1- I bag it as evidence, bring charges against them for assaulting a peace officer, then after the trial it would either be given back to them if they were found not guilty, or destroyed if they were found guilty; or, #2- I can make it disappear and no charges will be filed because I understand everyone has a bad day.

Guess which door they chose.

On EC-135 missions , as long as the General was winning at poker we could relax without worrying with those pesky mission training scenarios. Although trailing the miles long antenna behind the plane was cool. Using that wire antenna we could send a message to a submerged submarine out in the ocean to launch a practice missile. A few times the wire antenna would not retract and we would cut it loose. Quarter of a million $$$ antenna would be lost to the water below. (Maybe if we hit the reel loader with the $500.00 hammer it would have worked!)

Smoking cigarettes and cigars are bad for you, according to all the health experts and politicians. But there is no problems pushing Cannabis , yes more than just for medical reasons. I guess they are on the payroll of all the snack food industry too.

On that note, we had a Platoon Sergeant in Germany who was so dumb he couldn't read a CEOI. It worked out pretty well for us, we'd go set up on a hill top close to a town, pretty soon the kids would show up on their bikes and we'd send them into town for wine, brats, etc. When the sergeant called for our location we'd send it to him encrypted ( cause no one would ever send their location in the clear, right?). Drop the ramps on the 113's, build a big fire and relax for awhile, "life is good".
