Just got back from a trip that took us to San Juan Bautista (JJ's Moved!), Greenfield (Yanks had ants!), Morro Bay (My favorite place), Tehachapi (The water isn't as good as it used to be), Avi Casino (Fireworks by the side of the road drove the dogs crazy), Quartzite (most everything was closed) and Phoenix (where it was hot-ish 24/7).

But that's not want I want to talk about. ;)

Over the years my oil pressure has been slowly growing weaker and weaker. It became even lower driving up hills in the 100F+ heat. That made perfect sense - heat decreases the viscosity and so on.

I talked to the family master mechanic and he advised me that fairly often that is an oil pressure sender issue. So I planned on stopping at the Cat dealership near me on the last leg of our trip. I was thinking the sender would be inexpensive.

Imagine my surprise upon finding that the sensor that fits my engine, that comes in a plastic bag and fits in one hand costs $222! It must be made out of gold or something.
Chinese knock off versions are $200 cheaper but I wouldn't trust them for a minute.

It is what it is.

I do not know if this will help or not but some years back (last century years back) I was reading a service bullitian for a Tank. M1 Abrams as I recall.

There were two sensors one on the engine and one on the Tranny again as I recall.
They were IDENTICAL

one was very expensive. the other very cheap. Two different makers.,

Might be worth buying a manual gauge to verify the pressure. They're way cheaper than $200.

Yup; in my case the oil sensor for a Cummins ISC/ISL is over $200, but the same sensor is used in the Cummins ISB_$65.
