I realize that a smart phone is not needed for camping, but sometime it saves the bacon. On my trip in May, we had stopped at the Black River Falls rest stop on I-94 in Wisconsin. The next morning, I asked Steve if he was willing to make 550 miles that day, to the Crab Orchard Lake National Wildlife Refuge at Carbondale Illinois. We didn't make reservations because we were not sure where we would wind up. Well, we made it to the NWR campground, found nice lakefront sites, and the host's trailer was about 100 ft away. Basically she told us we had to get the reservation BEFORE we could even back into the sites. So we both stood there by our trucks and used the smart phones to make reservations. I missed the senior discount because its the LAST thing you do, and not the first (card number already on file in the account).
Anyhow we had a good night there despite waking up to severe thunderstorms approaching, but they missed us.
I tried to get them to stay another day, but they had "get home itis" and wanted to get home the next day.
Without a smart phone, what we did would have been much more difficult, having to drive back to the office (or miles down the road) to find a wifi and pulling out the laptop to get online.
