Leaving on a trip late this week with not a lot of planning time. Looking for overnight camping suggestions for the Bend, OR  and Reno areas. Also need anything in the Boise/Caldwell/Garden City area for a couple of nights. Hopefully something located between Caldwell and Garden City as that's where the family members are. Don't want much, do we??  ;D
Hoping for full hookups but just water and electric are ok. Would prefer shade but not critical. Price, cleanliness and being well run are on the top of the list. We would be very grateful for any suggestions you might share. Thanks!

Just a few miles outside Reno on I-80 (exit 4) is Boomtown. They have a nice campground that we've used several times. Tel (877)626-6686.

There's also the KOA at the Reno Hilton, close to the intersection of I-80 and US-395. I haven't stayed there since they became a KOA, but it used to be a nice, clean campground. Tel (888)562-5698.

We're currently staying at Crown Villa RV Resort in Bend, OR. An exceptionally clean RV park with some of the most efficient and pleasant staff I've come across, but may not meet your price criteria. Tel (866)500-5300.

Approx 10 miles away is Tumalo state park, but they have only a limited number of sites and have a size restriction.

Tom, I looked into the Crown Villa in Bend and you're right, it probably doesn't fit into the budget for this quick trip. However, it looks beautiful and I'm sure we'll make it there sometime in the future. We live in southern Oregon and have just begun or TT adventures this year. Do you know anything about the Sisters/Bend KOA CG? We were also looking at that. Any idea how far from Bend and/or how the road is to that location? Thanks for the info!
I think Boomtown is probably where we'll end up staying; if nothing else for the location and lack of traffic. I understand they have a pretty good bus/shuttle service to Reno.
Ron, I'll look into the Hi Valley park and check on it's location in respect to our relatives. Thanks!

It appears that there are different areas at different prices within this park, including a gravel area that I noticed when I left this morning.

On my way back from fishing today I noticed a sign for another campground somewhere nearby. I didn't recognize the name, so it can't be one we saw in one of the campground directories. I should have made a note of it, but I'll try to remember when we go out later.

Do you know anything about the Sisters/Bend KOA CG?

Sorry, haven't been there, although I suspect others here might have. Sisters is approx 22 miles from Bend, on Hwy 20, but I haven't driven that stretch of road. I'd guess it's a decent road that I could travel with my coach towing the Suburban.

Boomtown .... I understand they have a pretty good bus/shuttle service to Reno.

I didn't know that.

My parents used to stay at Crown Villa when it was $8/night full hookups!!!

30 miles from Bend is La Pine State Park which is very nice and has plenty of shade and it's quiet.

Oh my. it's gone up some since then. Current rate with AAA/FMCA discount (can't recall which we got) is $51/night.

Actually, I think there is a shuttle that runs from the Casino itself but we took it a few times when staying at the RV park many, many years ago in my Dads MH. I just now looked on the website and it seems the shuttle still runs. That's kind of the reason I'm hedging towards staying in Boomtown; less traffic but can still get downtown without driving.

It's definitely our preferred stop in that area. As you say, no noise or traffic. There's a WalMart supercenter one exit away (in the Reno direction). Good to know about the shuttle, although we normally have no reason to go into Reno.

After the last time we were in Reno, I'd say we had no reason to go downtown either!  :(

Update. For now it looks like it will indeed be the Crown Villa. I called that KOA up the road towards Sisters and their price was almost the same, so we'd rather stick closer to Bend. Idaho is starting to be a pain though. I looked at the web site for Fiesta RV near Garden City and thought it looked pretty good. Info on the TL CD program looked ok also. However, no working phone number to be found. Might be out of business. Can't do Horseshoe Bend as that is the area we lost a son (motorcycle accident) 4 years ago. So, the search goes on for Boise/Caldwell area.

We've stayed at Garrity RV Park in Nampa a couple of times. Nothing fancy but it's a PA park so you can get half off and it's got a nice dog run and the owner is great....very friendly and helpful. Not sure if it's too far out of your way or not.

The other park in Bend that I saw a sign for is Scandia RV park. Passed it, but couldn't see what it was like from the road. Appears to be a campground in a mobile home park. Tel (541)382-6206.

FWIW we drove a short way along Hwy 20 towards Sisters. That's a good highway to drive.

I really appreciate the effort. Thanks! It looks like we're Crown Villa bound but I'll give the other a call just for giggles.
