I tried a thread search but couldn't find anything that compares the round bar chain type hitches with the trunnion kind that has solid clamps or bars instead of chains. I've always used the chain and round bar kind and wondered if anyone has used both and has an opinion on which is best. Also is one kind easier to set up and use? I hope I've made myself clear.

I don't think there is another WD hitch on the planet that is easier to set up and use than the Blue Ox SwayPro. This hitch is so simple and works as advertised. Check it out.

There is very little functional difference between round bar and trunnion, but many experts favor the trunnion style for better ground clearance. Read this article on etrailer - it pretty well sums up the arguments pro and con. And hitch manufacturer Curt Mfg pretty much agrees.

What you really ought to be concerned about is sway control, and the hitches with integrated sway control, e.g. Reese Dual Cam, the Equal-i-zer brand or Blue Ox Sway Pro, are far superior to any WD hitch with an add-on friction sway bar.
