In Ohio and experiencing near 100 degree temperature when I woke up this morning and heard the AC fan running constant, very unusual because it would normally shut off after a few minutes. Fortunately I'm a refrigeration tech, went outside to the condenser, both condenser fan and compressor were running and the return line was warm, about same temperature as the liquid line, install gauges had a normal high pressure and very low pressure for R410A. Long story short, liquid line maintained pressure because of a defective TXV. Bought a window AC till next week when I can get a replacement part.

I talked today with the contractor at our OH townhome. He said it was 95F with very high humidity, and followed it up with: "when I leave your house and walk to my truck on your driveway, I'm sweating profusely". Meanwhile, Chris talked with our daughter in a nearby OH town, and she said it was too hot and humid to go outside. One reason I try to avoid visiting OH in the summer months.

As long as you can get used to being sweaty, humid is more tolerable than dry heat, IMO. Sweat cools the body.

I had the humid heat or a year nonstop in the jungles of Vietnam. I also have been to Bad Water in Death Valley in the middle of summer where it was very dry. I found dry to be worse than humid at the extreme temps.

I found out an interesting twist on this.

I have some kidney issues and my doc said to drink lots of water to help with this.

I work out daily and I found if I fill my water jug with tepid or even a bit warm water I can drink almost double what I was drinking when I took iced cold water.
 
106 F today in Central Virginia. My a/c could only get the inside temperature down to 80 F. But, it did keep the humidity down to 47%. My travel trailer has a factory installed window type a/c through a side wall. It's more effective than the typical rooftop a/c and more quiet.

Oh yeah. We are ready to eliminate fossil fuels. We can build more housing. Just won't be able to heat or cool them.

I've been in Louisiana for the last 3 months. Spent most of the last 2 and 1/2 years there, returning home to Indiana every now and then. Got home July 2. Yea, it was "hot" in Indiana, heat index near 100. Everyone complaining how horrible it was (is). I'm outside washing and waxing the truck, mowing grass, spraying week killer! In Louisiana I would run through 6 or 7 T-shirts a day as they would get completely drenched in sweat. (completely). At least in Indiana, I'm now only going through 3 a day! Yes ... I'm 71 years old. Heat? I'm not letting it stop me from doing anything.

Took a tour of Central America and saw similar wiring in several of those countries.

Couldn't believe my eyes but it was true.

The increasing number of data centers and crypto mining centers are using up huge amounts of electricity. My community, 55,000 people with a well-run community utility company, has prohibited any other crypto mining or data centers due to the electricity use. The single big crypto miner here, established before people realized how big an energy hog they are, uses 50% of the total energy of the entire city! My city decided reserving our electrical capacity for business that provide good paying jobs and allowing more housing was more important than a single company that employs 50 or so <$20/hr workers. And a proposed data center in Utah would use more electricity than the entire state uses today! That is pretty ridiculous. And we haven’t even talked about the water these huge facilities use!

There's a class action lawsuit being filed against Elon Musk's power plant to supply his AI data center.

It has 57 gas fired turbines that sound like jet engines causing not only noise but also vibration and pollution in surrounding neighborhoods.

But here we are getting off the topic of high temperatures, huh?
 
I know they take a lot crap world wide but the French seem to have nuclear power down pretty well. Since the mid '70's France has produced approximately 67% of the country’s total electricity requirements of about 570 TWh/Yr, making it the leading source of electricity in the nation. It's clean, quiet, and scalable. There's a stigma in the US about nuclear energy and some points are well founded but the French have had 2 serious accidents since 1969 and neither resulted in a death or radiation exposure. IMHO It's about time the US start reconsidering wide scale nuclear power deployment. Right now it's about only 20% of our total production and our energy needs are rising every year. Where's a Mr. Fusion when you need one??

Now that I've kicked the hornets nest I'll sit back and observe.... :geek:
