There are 3 floor ducts for my heater. They accumulate a lot of dust, etc. I vacuum them out as best I can but would like to get something to cover them. I looked on Amazon and found some magnetic covers but they are white. I was thinking a darker color would be better.

Does anyone have covers on the ducts and if so what are you using?

Go to lowes or home depot. the have rolls of carpet runner in several colors, have them cut your a couple feet of the color you like then take it home and cut to fit.

Are the covers metal?  You can get sheets of magnet material at Walmart or JoAnn Fabrics.  They are white.  Easy to cut to fit with scissors.  We have small rugs we put over ours because the dog caught her nails in one.

Anyway,just offering a possible solution.

The carpet runner is a good idea.  The registers are metal so magnetic would work.

After I posted I got the idea of replacing with a register that would close. Found this on Amazon. It is a Winnebago part but seems like the size would work. The existing registers are 3 5/8 x 11 3/8.

$16 ea and I would need 3.

The other things Lowes and Home Depot have is replacement ducts. Now they come in two flavors. Dampered and not.. by two more flavors Plastic and metal. After bending several metal ones In my kitchen area I decided to try a plastic.. sadly it too broke but not as swiftly

It has a "Sliding door" type damper.. So you close the damper (when not in use) and you can just sweep it off. (the metal ones the damper is down inside and harder to clean).

I wish they had done the kitchen one differently (like wall instead of floor).

I like the idea of getting registers that have a damper. I?m going to research that further. If I don?t find those I?ll go with some type of cover. I?m not near a Home Depot or Lowe?s right now.

How about some packing/shipping tape. Then peel it off when you want heat

Spray paint would fix this issue nicely. If they are fabric, you can also dye them.

Another source of "Covers" is a company called AVERY.. Yup the company that makes all kinds of peal and stick labels. Including printable magnetic sheets.> Very low cost and you can cut to fit. it's a flexible magnet.

In my owners manual for the furnace it says that we have one floor register that closes.  It is in the bathroom.  The manual states that we can move that closing register to any position but not to add any additional registers that close, or cover any registers, as damage to the furnace could occur.  Whatever you do to cover the registers you should remember to remove them all when you need heat.  I have the same problem with them collecting dust and debris but so far I just vacuum them out.

Now, someone is going to write, "How would that 'damage' the furnace, you have an over-temp switch.  Answer: I don't know, just quoting my manual.  I decided not to find out the answer and didn't cover my registers.

Had some old magnetic sheets ~~ covered part of it with 'sticky' shelf liner in a wood grain pattern similar to flooring. Cut to shape. Used them for years for 'dust covers' for the heater vents when Furnace is OFF!!

JM2?  ~~  YMMV

I found these registers with dampers on Amazon which I believe I will order. I have 3 registers that are all in the center aisle. One by the dinette, one in front of kitchen sink and one by the bed. So all 3 get walked on a lot. I?m thinking any type of cover would start looking pretty shabby before too long. I don?t use the furnace too often as I have a catalytic propane heater. But on the occasion that I do use it these would be easy to open.

Hopefully this link goes to the item. I see the link above didn?t.
