Dash a/c goes on and off

The dash a/c on my 2001 American Tradition works fine, all fan speed and temperature controls, then just stops.  Days later without touching anything, it just starts working again.  Anyone had to deal with this problem.  Looking for a simple fix before leaving on a trip.  Roof a/c's work fine so that's the backup
