I read in an old thread here about spraying a Prestone product on the rv roof, then raising the tongue 2-3", to make the snow melt and slide off more easily.  Here is what it said: "Step two. Go to Walmart and buy this stuff (3 dollars a gallon)..it's the best...better than Peak and Rain-X.  http://www.prestone.com/products/print/434?popup="
However, the link is dead now after nearly 8 years.  Anyone know which product is being referred to?  I could only find Prestone De-icer in a spray can, so I'm not sure what product should be used.  I'd appreciate any advice here.  We're thinking about skipping a cover and trying this. Thanks1

Prestone de icer is mostly methanol and contains ethelyne glycol. Neither I would put on my roof.

Not sure how much snow we're talking about..
If I had a cover I would be incline to make use of it.

Even if you found a deicer that was chemically compatible with the roof, a couple hours of rain prior to a snow would completely dilute it, rendering it useless. Next time you sit through an airline deicing operation take note of how many gallons of (heated) fluid it takes to remove snow.

I'd be very concerned about poisonous runoff and possible chemical damage to the roof.

You needn't to anything to the roof, including covering it. Ours survives New England winters just fine the way it came from the factory.

I agree with all of the above.  A cover does not protect you from the WEIGHT of the snow.  If weight is of concern, brush or blow it off.  With or without a cover.  Otherwise, the Good Lord will melt it off in the spring.  No chemicals needed.

A variety of materials are used for RV roofing so without knowing the type of roof you have, it's not possible to answer your question.  On the other hand, I'd be inclined to forget about any chemicals and brush it off if necessary.  Or wait for the spring thaw.
