Dentists in Algodones, Mexico

Hi, We are planning on spending a couple of months in Yuma and was wondering if any of you fellow rv'ers have had any dental work done in Algodones, Mexico. If so, how did you go about finding a good dentist.

We had massive dental work done in Algodones several years ago.  Alma Luna was the dentist.  She is great.  Between wife and I we had several teeth pulled, a root canal and plates made.  Would go no where else.  Price was about three thousand less than in the states.  She was a member of the American Dental Assn.  Place is clean - English spoken.  For some of the work she made immediate appointments with specialists.  Was a perfect set-up.

We have also used Dr. Alma Luna for several years.  There are numerous dentists in Algondones and all of them do excellent work at very reasonable prices.

I have had a tooth implant, root canal, and crowns done there and have been very satisfied.  Dr. Alma Luna has done most of our work and recommended two other specialists for the implant and the root canal.  As Fred said everything is very clean and English spoken.  The cost is substantially lower than in the states.  All of the dentists we have gone to have had some or all of their training here in the states.

Anyone have a phone number for Dr. Alma Luna? I assume you have to make appointments?

Yes Tom I do.  It is 01152 (658) 517 7659 and yes you have to make an appointment.  Since we started going there over 5 yrs ago she has become a lot busier, but she does have help during the "Season".

Am I correct in assuming that most US insurance will not cover work done in Mexico?  If that is true, are the prices still generally less than if done in the US including insurance?

Smoky it depends on what your copay is.  If you plan on doing that in one day while there it won't happen because you need an appointment and it took us two weeks to get in when we were in Yuma in Oct and Nov.

We have plenty of time, since we are here for the winter.  But still confused on the insurance issue.  My bet is my insurance won;t cover prescriptions in Mexico.

Dr Luna's address is : "B" Ave # 102, Inside Mestlan Plaza, Los Algodones, B.C. Mexico.  It is in two blocks from the border crossing and then right on south side of street.  The building is bright yellow with bright blue trim.

My two cents:  We had Dr. Luna and two specialists do extensive work on our teeth including making a full upper for me and a lower bridge and a lower bridge for spouse.  The cost in Blythe would have been $3400. We have Delta Dental and would have paid 80% of that.  With Dr. Luna the cost was $600.  Work was perfect.  Plates fit without any alterations.

Is it safe to go into Algodones?  Does anyone know if Dr. Alma Luna is still in Algodones?  I need some dental work done and have heard from way too many that it is not safe to go to Nogales.  So, we would plan to go to Algodones if it's safe.

Yep,

It's safe to go to Algodones.  Just walk over border. Bring Passport to get return to America.

Yep Wendy, gave it up.  Problems never ceased and we'd had enough.  So it's been in a consignment lot for the last 4 months.  Hope we don't have to go up and drag it down here to Tucson.  Darn economy - probably would have sold by now.  Oh well, we do plan to pop over to Catalina State Park in about 10 days and see many of you.  Until then, Happy Holidays all!
