Stayed for a week end of April 2018. Very nice, feet in the sand a little $$$, everything is available high end at the beach and le$$ towards the road. They even covered the outdoor pool in the cold weather (yes, in April!).
We'd go again without pause.

We've stayed at Huntington State Beach Park a few times. The showers are large and air conditioned with laundry.
There's a Hampton Inn with two room suites and heated pool just west of Huntington State Beach Park.
A little further and you can rent a pontoon. The Bay is beautiful, the water is often crystal clear and you will probably see Dolphins.
