Setting up our 2015 Sierra pick up for flat towing. Found that transfer case will NOT shift out of neutral once positive battery lead has been disconnected which is part of the flat tow procedure. A "Sevice 4x4" warning code comes up on the display. Transfer case will not shift at this point until error code is reset by dealer or technician.
Following up, we determined that most GM 2014 and 2015 models in 4x4 require a computer software update to eliminate this glitch. Simple fix but could be a real PIA if one doesn't do a trial run on a new tow package. Hope this helps someone avoid unnecessary inconvenience.
