Dining Table

I want to raise and lower my dining table by air, hydraulic or gas shock. anyone have a idea or have seen this done

Your question is pretty vague. What kind of table? Is it mounted on a pedestal, hinged to a wall, or what. Size, shape, weight? Do you want it to be flush with the floor when retracted or up against the wall? Need more details.

A freestanding table with no legs (or legs removed) can be attached to a hi/lo adjustable height post (something like a big gas strut that can be locked at different heights) and the lower end inserted into a base. If the table is very big, you'd probably need a strut and a base at each end. I added a strut and base to a farily heavy fiberglass table we use in the cockpit of our boat. A friend got them for me, so I don't know off the top of my head where they were bought. I'll try to snap a photo.

Here are a few photos I just snapped (apologies for the poor photography). Our coffee table in the salon, which doubles as a second dining table when we have a lot of guests aboard, uses the same hi/lo mechanism, but a fancier base.

• Cockpit (fiberglass) table up.
• Cockpit table down.
• Underside showing attachment to table.
• Salon (coffee) table.
• Extra guests seated at the 'coffee table' (in roughly mid height position).
