With streaming and the multitude of other programming options, I am very surprised that satellite TV companies are still even in business. And with Starlink now making streaming possible everywhere, it seems like those cumbersome systems should be nearing end days for sure. We also transitioned years ago from cumbersome large TVs to the modern ambient light technology projection systems...in our home and in our small RV. Far better in every way.

As an ex DirecTV customer, I'm on their mailing list. Received an ad the other day advertising DirecTV's streaming service. I guess they're moving away from their satellite service.

DirectTV must have deep-pockets or a huge lender in the wings to assume $8 Billion DishTV debt.
BTW, this month my Dish network bill rose another $10/month.

This topic was well discussed discussed on the IRV2 forum. It seems highly likely that streaming programming over the Internet will be the future. I also think that cell towers will eventually go the way of the dinosaur too.

One of the vendors at Quartzsite came by our booth last January to talk about Starlink mounts. He's been selling Dish satellite systems for RVs for years. I asked how well they've been selling since Starlink came out, and he said they hadn't sold one in nearly two years.

Starlink is definitely leading the way, because of all of its features, but it's not cheap. We just got notified that our mobile Starlink service is going from $150 to $165 a month, but as a tradeoff, they're allowing it to be used in-motion, along the coastal waterways and internationally for no extra charge. We can still deactivate Starlink when we're not traveling and pay nothing, but if they ever remove that feature, I think we'll say goodbye to mobile Starlink.

I told irv2 goodbye a long time ago. Much too heavy-handed in their moderation, and a preponderance of members who are safety zealots afraid of their own shadow.

I gave up on IRV2 over the heavy handed ness many years ago. I like it here much more better.

DirecTV is owned by AT&T. Very deep pockets.

I suspect that satellite TV will survive somehow. I sure don't want to pay $150+ to watch TV on the road.

Dish has had a service that will 'take over' whatever you're watching (IRT) with streaming. I think they call it 'Sure Signal'.

Hopefully the merged companies will come up with a better alternative for RV satellite than DirecTV currently has. I refuse to pay $2500 for a new dish to watch my local channels in the RV.

On the other hand, the infrastructure costs for streaming is nothing compared to launching satellites.

Interesting times.

(Chinese curse: "May you live in interesting times")

I cant bring myself to pay that much. They dont have to charge as much as they do. Just look how much profit they all make.

I make due with what i can get. Amazon prime and pluto tv gets you a lot of tv. During football season i might sign up for sling. A lot cheaper and easier to set up as long as you have decent internet

I stopped using irv2 when they kept blocking my links to other sites and starting sending me messages saying i was violating their terms because of it. Good thing for them other forums dont have the same policy

Agreed. We found the IRV2 moderators to be over the top too. And way more degenerates hang out there than here from what we have seen as well. But we find all social media to be lame and tedious in general and we typically only use it as a surgical strike to gather what little info we need to accomplish something. Life is way too short to waste with social media, its superficiality and potential brainwashing BS.

I too prefer Moderators who moderate with moderation.

IRV granted me Supporter status due to all the requests for Help I answered.
Then they ... Well (expiative deleted) me off and Bookmark, Deleted.
Good Sams/woodals/RV.net and so on (All same forums) Changed their sofware (Bookmark deleted)
This group remains as the best RV place on the Internet.

Me too! They got to be real heavy-handed and ridiculous.

Isn't DirectTV owned by AT&T? And, before that I thought they were owned by GM. If I'm correct they would have the deep deep pockets to adjust to streaming and the use of satellite connections.

You are not correct. Reference post #11:
AT&T has announced that it will sell its 70% DirecTV to TPG $7.6 billion. TPG will take full control of the DirecTV by second half 2025.

What issue did they have with your links?

irv2's terms of service include:
Links to other forums are permitted so long as they are directing to a specific thread or post and relevant to the current discussion. Members should refrain from general referrals to competing websites as a matter of common courtesy.
and
Participants may not post affiliate links or direct others to any pages at their own commercial website or website in which they have an owner/operator interest unless a commercial account has been established.
irv2.com/forums/misc.php?do=sknetwork&page=rules

The rules here are pretty much the same:
Commercial advertisements, ads for information exchange (petitions, surveys, questionnaires), and soliciting for funds. 'Associate links', such as amazon associate links, that pay a commission are considered commercial advertising, and such links are not allowed.
and
The following types of message are NOT permitted in the forum...Messages which attempt to disrupt operation of the RV Forum by directing users to competing forums, groups or web sites.
rvforum.net/help/rules/

What I find most interesting is that irv2.com and rvforum.net are owned by the same company.

It has been a very long time so i dont remember the details. I dont know if they changed their rules since then but they blocked me every time i included a link to anything.

The mods seemed take offense when i asked why so i left

Same experience with us and still ongoing. And this affects many people on the IRV2 forum too.

IRV2 bans people and deletes anything that they think remotely adversely affects the sales of their sponsors. For example, when we included the link to our trailer pickup trip and modification writeup, they deleted our post and threatened to ban us if we did that again. They claimed that mentioning that we were assisting in the design and testing of an European electric/propane tankless water heater was a violation because we were promoting and selling something...which we are NOT.

IRV2 deletes any post that deviates from the subject title. For example, if you were to mention Starlink in this post, it would get deleted. This just happened to several people this week. We still participate on IRV2 forum, but not frequently and at some point we won't participate on any RV forums anymore. Once we extract the info we need, it becomes very boring and tedious to keep seeing the same questions getting asked over and over again...and seeing the same good or poor responses over and over again...and life is just too short to waste this way.

And our feeling is that all social media is used to brainwash and scam people in one way or another. These RV forums are all about selling stuff...much of it junk and not needed.
